Need Mechanic
I'm in need of a mechanic for my Rx8 in the Chicago area!!
I need an engine rebuilt! Everybody that I know wants me to sell my car or trade it in but I refuse to get an other car. I need an engine rebuild in Chicago. I have a 2004 manual transmission and the dealer is charging about 5000 - 6000 to get a new engine. I'm a college student and don't have that type of money. I'm sure and engine rebuilt would cost me a lot less but I'm out of luck since I can't find a mechanic in Chicago.
HELP PLEASE!!!!

a rebuild engine's quality depends HEAVILY on your current engine's condition.
to get an "decent" rebuild, you will need to replace at least (most of the time) 2 housings, all apex seals and springs, and all side seal springs, all rubber o-rings and some gaskets here and there. and those already cost at LEAST 2K not including labor. I just did 3 engines for myself and 2 friends. 2 Rx8 1 rx7, so I know. not even including lapping/re-nitrate/new iron and other related crap.
Let's not forget the round-trip shipping gonna be 2-400 bucks each way depends on where you ship the engine to, PLUS labor to remove it and reinstall, that's another 800-1000 usually.
this is not your friend's garbage honda, it's a real sports car so it's never cheap.
with that said, it MIGHT be a good idea for you to just sell the car as is.
