After they took about 2 hrs trying to figure out was was wrong with it they finally told me that they called mazda and they were told that it is a known issue and that the only solution is a new engine!....needless to say i was so pissed i could not even talk!... it's brand new car for crying out loud!. So tomorrow im supposed to get a call letting me know when my new engine will be here. I'm so close to reporting it as a lemon and see if a get another new 8 instead.

My first engine replacement happened after I had the car for about 1.5 months. On the plus side when you get your second engine replacement you aren't that angry. The overwhelming feeling of bewilderment takes over.

zoom, there could be a known issue that they aren't disclosing. When my first engine died they never did tell me what went wrong. The way they determined that the engine was gone was from testing the oil sample. They had some technical rep fly in from Toronto to evaluate the engine.

1st engine - the car would start fine when cold and run I would run it to where it was warm. If I shut the car down while warm, it wouldn't start again until it cooled down. The exact opposite of the flooding only after it warmed up would there be a problem.

2nd engine - I took off slowly from a light, made it across the intersection and heard a pop...then shaking. I shut it off and that was it.

Which dealership did you take it to? I bet you'd be much happier with Rosenthal in Arlington.

the dealership was koon's mazda in south maryland. rosenthal might have been a little too far of a drive i believe.
Rotten42, so you've gone trough 2 engines?

Rosenthal is another 20 min. from the top of Rt. 4. It's well worth the extra drive not to deal with Koons.

Yep, im not in the minimum impressed with koon's, they have horrible costumer service and if they would have listen to my in the first place..i told them "check my engine" and they check instead my wheels and completely skipped looking under the hood or even doing a test drive.

Nope...that's a lease. The good thing is I can walk away from it next year.

I deal with this same dealership and thought ("thought" being the key word) I was receiving pretty good service until this passed weekend.

Heres my story:

I bought my 05 rx8 gt used in Jan '05 with 13k miles on it. As of today, it has 44k miles (yes, i drive a lot)

My car has been serviced 24times since I purchased it mainly for what i thought was the transmission and it not shifting right and ideling hard right before it dies but i know nothing about cars. I will admit that.

The previous owner had the car serviced 13times for various reasons as well. I had the dealership pull the wrap sheet of services to find these numbers.

I've had this same problem with it dieing on me 5 times already. 3 of which ROSENTHAL told me it was something different each time.

I drove home to NY this passed weekend, made it there fine, but the next day it ended up dieing at a red light and needed to be towed to Burdick Mazda in Syracuse, NY.

I dealt with the Service Manager there (Paul Corey) who told me something about some U Codes? that were coming up and that i was basically driving my car wrong and that I needed to keep the RPMs up because that's what rx8's like. (whatever) So he takes me out and "teaches" me how to drive my car.

20mins later I leave and head over to the store, turn my car off, go shop, come back to my car and guess what........IT'S DEAD. AGAIN!!
I call back to Paul and tell him and it got towed right back in. 30mins later, i find out i need a new engine....that ROSENTHAL basically put stuff back together in my car half a$$ed and that the warranty was changed and is now opened ended as of last August. I'm glad ROSENTHAL let me know that.

So, right now my rx8 is up in NY waiting on an engine and as soon as i get it back im taking it right up to ROSENTHAL and telling them to go *bleep bleep* themselves! I don't have enough time/space here to write about all the run arounds (BS) that place has give me. I am this close || to telling them to take their car back and deal with my laywer schpeal.

I'm new here. This is my first post, so I appologize if I have done anything wrong.

WOW!!!!!!

I guess if more lemon law based claims were filed, someone in corporate will have to take notice and do something about the problems RX8 customers are having.

SERVICED 24 TIMES by you .................... SERVICED 13 TIMES by the previous owner is UNREAL.

I admire your patience. After the fourth time I had to take my RX8 to dealer for a problem, I flat out got fed up and SAID enough. I didn't even care at how big of a financial hit I took either. No car is worth the aggravation, but I do respect those who must really love this car a lot to deal with things like this. More power to ya!! I loved my RX8, but after 4 times I thought " this is the beginning of a pure hell ownership, so I got out while I could. Glad there are people out there having 0 problems, and lots of miles.
