New Engine Break-In

New Engine Break-In
anyone with other things to add please do so, keep any "discussion" or "questioning" to either PM or start another topic PLEASE.
key's to "break in"
- constantly vary the engine load (high rpm, low rpm, switch gears frequently, try to avoid bumper-to-bumper traffic situations)
- allow full warm-up and cool-off periods of at least 3-5 minutes
- no cruising, bad for a new motor
- oil change at 3k or before for at least the first 3
- monitor fluid levels obv.
as i said somewhere else:
" your motor is like a dog, you want to get it around and socialize it with everything and anything that it will see in the future"
any other tips? please add for all these guys getting new motors and having mazda say "there's no break-in required", bullshit.
kevin.

Yes, I agree Kevin, Breaking in ANY new motor is important, and I agree that Mazda's advice is BS.
I also believe a break in period applies to your Transmission (manual) and Brakes if you have a brand new vehicle.
An early oil change or two is a must do ( I would include a new oil filter in that, but probably not as important as new engine oil).
Also new Transmission and Differential oils at around 3K, I don't believe in making the first drive train oil changed at 24,000 Miles (40,000 KMS) like Mazda Australia says here.
Brake pads should also be bedded in, so try and avoid Hard Stops for around 1-2K's, IMO it also helps to extend the life of your brake rotors.
And something we both agree on Pre-Mixing...after the first oil change.
Sorry, I know this thread is about ENGINES!...DOH!
