Question New to the forum, had technical questions.

I searched around for a few hours to find relevant threads.
Sadly there was no cigar.

I just got an 05 Shinka 8, and my buddies have been telling me things and i was just wondering if they were idiots?[:

Firstly, i was told that the engines are supposed to go bad a 60k miles?!?
Secondly, they said it doesn't hurt rotary engines when you go passed the red line?
Lastly, is it possible to convert the renny into a 3 rotor? If so, is it worth the trouble in HP gain?

Thanks for the comments and answers!

It's friday and I'm bored at work...

1, wth?
2, Let's say, just have fun with it.
3, it's called engine swap, not convert, it'll cost u about double or more of what the car worth to do it.

Wrong, it should go well over 100,000 miles (should).

True, a redline a day keeps the carbon away.
Lastly, is it possible to convert the renny into a 3 rotor? If so, is it worth the trouble in HP gain?
It is possible, but not worth it. Some Brits made one. The typicle 3 rotor is an engine from a Cosmo. The process to install one in a RX8 will cost $20K min. Turbo the Rene for $10K.

Thanks for the comments and answers!
No problem.

If you are actually serious, then read the first 9 posts in this thread. https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-forum-197/new-potential-owners-start-here-202454/

I specifically wrote it to address all of the common misconceptions (both good and bad) about the car.

There is also this thread.
It's not meant to be an insult. It's usually very easy to get most answers there

So is it just a the APEX seals that go bad?

And I looked at that "thread," none of the questions were serious and it was just kind of annoying that i wasted my time looking through it.

Did you read the whole thread?
Otherwise, keep looking towards the end.
You gotta do some digging and research to get some real answers around here...

How about the thread I linked? Post #2 starts with: The engine failure story:

and includes every known common method of failure.

Not in all cases but what I generally do is start at the end of a thread to see what is what ... then go to the original post

I just had a mental image of TeamRX8 and Monchie creating Youtube videos of the common failure points of the engine holding various rotary engine parts, while doing interpretative dance.

I'm not sure if that was a comical mental image, or if I'm seriously troubled in my brain.

It is early on a Saturday morning though, so I'll blame it on not enough sleep.

BC.

You may have the attention span of a squirrel but most forum members here have the patience of of a charging buffalo.
I'm not sure your lack of attention will win over them...
