New "R" flash is out
#3
As many as it takes to...
...I'm not sure what the goal is.
I was hoping that they would adjust the A/F to be less rich but since the computer is tied into nearly every aspect of the car it's hard to say what they are trying to accomplish.
The "P" flash seemed to restore the power surge at 7,000+ RPMs that I had on "L", or was it "M" might have been "K", I don't even know anymore. I don't even know if I ever got the "N" flash.
Last time my car was in (last week) the service rep said my software was "way out of date" and he looked at me like it was my fault. I notify him everytime there is a software update and ask him to take care of that during my oil change. He's always told me that it's been done. So if it was "way out of date" then that would mean he hasn't been doing what I asked/what he is supposed to be doing/what he has billed Mazda for.
I don't think I care anymore. Once the warranty is up I'm tuning this thing myself.

Whatever, I'm still on M and it seems ok. Guess I'll wait to find out what the "R" goodies are and if there's anything so fabulous as to make me want/need it.
Who comes up with these designations? Whatever happened to "o" or "Q" and there were multiple M's? Gosh, didn't we get this stuff down in Kindergarten? Reminds me of a software vendor I deal with. I'm reporting a problem. "What version do you have"? Oh, I have Version 4.1.12. "Oh. Is that the 4.1.12 from June 30 or the 4.1.12 from August 2?" -- Arghhh.

SW-N3Z1ER000, SW-N3Z2ER000 for 2004 cars
SW-N3K6EE000, SW-N3K7EE000 2005 Fed/Canada cars
SW-N3K8EE000, SW-N3K9EE000 2005 California cars
people kept asking "should i go get P?" and i said " wait until you have some problem cause there will be a new one by then"
i dont know yet if this is they were/are working on for the AT enigine issue that had to be passed by the epa.

originally the cars had files numbered like this N3H(4 or 6)Ex000 . that went all the way to M- N3HxEN000. then they changed to a completly new number- N3Z(1 or 2)Ex000. the first file put in our cars under the new number was N3Z(1 or 2)EM000. so the H file was Nlevel and the first Z file used was M but it had a bug so it was corrected with the next level which was Z N. then the 2005 cars got their own numbering indicating a change in programming between everyone elses cars and california cars. must be emissions related but havent tracked down eactly what.

You'd have to run a dyno on each flash to really figure out if there have been any performance improvements. I know my idle on "K" and "L" (IIRC) was pig rich and poped quite at bit (also smelled like an outboard). I think "M" fixed my idle. Each time the car gets flashed there seems to be a slight difference in the feel of power delivery. But I have no idea how significant the changes are in real numbers.

The reflashes don't bother me at all--if anything its the poor response to mods that frustrates me the most. The gas mileage would be next--oil consumption doesn't bother me cause I use to have a 3rd gen.

Hey, I think it's great that they're working hard to make the thing the best it can be. That is what they're doing, right?
