New RX-8 Owner! Question about using 5W-30 instead of 5W-20

As I've said before, my hunch is that it's far more important that you change oil every 3-4 months or 3-4K miles, check the level every other fill-up and add oil, if necessary, to keep it near full on the dipstick.
I know it's a radical opinion around here, but I believe the difference between 5W-20 and 5W-30 is negligible. Much ado about nothing.

This
and this
After reading tons of info on this site over the past year about the never ending argument on oil grades, the above two opinions are the ones that make the most sense to me.
Ah, and also the opinion that premixing might be good insurance - especially on Series I engines since those didn't come with the third oil injector.

oil filter
hay guys, i got an 05 rx-8 45,000 miles on it. going to change the oil again, 5-w-20, i got a diffrent filter this time. its a fram 6x, tg6607 synthetic tough guard. it says silicone anti drainback valve. will this filter be ok ? ive never heard of this antidrain back valve, since the filter is mounted upsidedown will it be ok to use ? thanks.

Personally, I will never use a Fram in a car I care about.
I've seen too many comparisons and internal inspections turn up issues that make me nervous using them.
From some of their filters being cardboard inside that can disintegrate under pressure, to pressure relief bypass set too low and activating, meaning you aren't filtering at all.

The dealer I go to (Rosenthal Tyson's) used 5w30 for a while, then went back to 5w20. I never asked if 5w30 was intentional.
They also use Castrol GTX, which gives me a warm fuzzy since I've used Castrol all of my cars for the past 45 years.
