PROBLEM!
They dont sell the Automatic transmission starter on AAP website =(
meaning i won't be able to get 15% off and $50 off next visit. Any other suggestions? If not I'll just purchase it without the discounts.

after you got the part number from the system, call AAP online to order , tell them you have Coupon code, give them either BIG35, you should have enough to use it. then wait at home and it will come.
by the way, try to order one for 07+ rx-8, cuz its updated (2.0 KW) model , not the old one (1.4 KW).
but it will be a lot easier if you just get it from Autozone, order the 07+ version, it fits the same but its 100% updated (2.0 Kilowatts)
I know Autozone cost 20 bux more but hey, if u need it, you don't have a choice, correct ? plus I dont think you want to buy one from Mazda, going to cost double without the lifetime warranty.
Update : 17495 is the part number for Advance Auto Parts. Dunno if you can use coupons with cuz the Online part said i have to go order it in store.

BTW for any Canadians reading this thread.
The best starter for the price I found in Canada was from NAPA Autoparts.
179$ (- 7% if you have a CAA card).
+35$ core charge.
I installed it last friday. Its a 2.0kw starter. Just as good as Mazda upgraded starter.

Try doing the resets, and for the DSC , you have to turn the steering lock to lock to reset it.And, the motor will idle erratically for a while, this is the norm.

As of today, still nothing.
and I can't cancel it now, I gotta wait until it's "here", I get it, then I can return it for a full refund.
The other thing is that I'm not sure if I should trust AZ's starter, they had some really bad reputation ... I know it has a Lifetime warranty but ... I helped my friend bought and installed an Alternator from AZ and it failed in 3 months ... I feel really sorry about that. and I dont' really want that kind of "****" happens to me.

Just wait for it, install it, and see how it works.
A rebuilt anything can be a crapshoot.
You can get a fantastic rebuilt doodad that was better than the original part, or you can get a rebuilt doodad that was so poorly built, you could have done a better job by hand, in your dirty garage.
The other thing you could do is pull apart your current starter, clean off the brushes, and see if it cranks better then.
BC.

I just called aap (local) and asked them if they have a 2kw starter for an 07 rx8.
They gave me a worldwide part number of 16093 and the brand is Walker the cost was 266.99.
So i called up the online store so i could use the coupon and free shipping. They said that that's a part that you can only order locally.
I really don't want to order anything less than a 2 kw. I already did that and it didn't last long.
So here are my options:
Walker from aap $266.99
Bosch from Napa $400
Mazda $500
Autozone 159.99
: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...4_192299_5467_
Anyone try this one?

I dont see why you cant get the same deal in the states, 400$ is excessive.

Just installed starter from aap, starter fine but now I have a compression issue and car won't idle while driving. Stalls and then turns over but not start. I ask multiple reps about the starter being 2.0 or 1.4 kw and they thought I was stupid like that's not a measurement. I got a response about the diff btwn 130 and 90 amps but they couldn't tell me any rating of the starter besides that it was 12v. . . Before installation I I specter the starter and couldn't find any markings stickers or stamps telling me any of those specs either. Any suggestions?

I'm sorry...
What's your actual question about?
If the starter now spins the engine over faster than the old starter did, then ignore the whole "How powerful is my new starter?" question, and move on to troubleshooting the lack of idle issue.
Now, since you have said that your car no longer idles, answer these questions:
How long have you owned the car?
How many miles are on it?
How many miles are on the ignition coils?
How many miles are on the spark plugs?
How many miles are on the spark plug wires?
What were the compression readings when you took it in for a compression test.
If you can't answer one of these questions, then you need to perform that replacement or test.
BC.

Am I the only one that's not getting the starter ?
I guess I should stop by Autozone again and ask them wth is going on.
Just gonna tell them it takes too long and cancel it (gonna try it that if the manager is there)
said7, Mazda starter don't cost 500 bux. where u got ur numbers from ?
Not to mention, you can get good prices for Bosch or other brands at rockauto.com

but a Remanufacture unit on the other hand, no matter what happens should NOT failed. at least not in the short term. they supposed to open it up, test it, improve it, then put it back together.
Funny thing is, Autozone's page didn't say anything about our starter. I will have to assume that if it doesn't say anything it's probably a rebuild unit.

The dealer told me the cost of $500. I didn't want to order one online for cheaper because i couldn't wait that long for delivery.
The autozone one seems to be working out so far. Prob sell this car in 2 years so i just hope it at least lasts till then.

Back from the dead!
Does anyone have the statistics of the Mazda Upgraded Starter?
Number of teeth, rated HP, cranking RPMs? I understand it's a 2KW model.
Both AZ and AAP have 2kw versions available for '06 models now. They say that it "won't fit" a 2004, but I suspect the software is just stupid.
Can anyone confirm that AZ part number 19473 will fit a 2004? Same with AAP part number 16093.
