No power gains from "L" flash.....darn

Had my 8 reflashed with the new "L" version on 3/10 and also did the psg airbag recall. Verified it was updated by doing the 20 brake taps within 8secs and the oil pressure needle moved from low to mid back to low. (didn't sweep before)

There were numerous members stating that they're 8 felt it had more power/pickup post L flash.

I have a Gtech Pro and did several before/after "L flash" hp/tq runs.
(no 1/4mi times) The hp/tq runs were done in 2nd gear and used the same road to test. Weight was the same, gas at 3/4 full, and turned DSC totally off for both testing days.

I has hoping for a alittle power or spike at certain rpms but didn't see any difference at all.

Hopefully MPG will improve.

The higest green line was actually a BEFORE run, but the other before run was exactly the same as the 2 after runs. Here's the graph. The rest of the data can be found here......

Waiting for CZ stage 1.1 to arrive in a few weeks to compare it to stock. Will post results.

thanks for trying to look at this stuff with at least some type of measurement. There's been a little too much conjecture I think.

Now I don't feel so bad for not having the L flash....
I had my car in for service for a few issues and asked them to do the L flash, but after reading mdw333 posts asked them to hold off on the flash. Turns out they had no concept or permission from MAzda to even do it- even though I gave them the TSB's (and this NYC dealership is owned by Ford.)

I agree with your G-Tech conclusions, although the "L" reflash does give me smoother acceleration through the rev range.

Mileage figures at best for me are .5 mpg better.

so most of the power gains can be viewed as the placebo effect...thanks for actually using facts...what a concept :D

Nothing wrong with the Placebo effect - just don't bank on it at the track. John PS Had my 'flash' - no real change - any effect was due to moving from the 'quiet' SLK320 to the 'meatier - high reving' RX-8. Oh the pain John

Same here, no difference after the "L" flash. Wife is sure that the car drives, shifts better with the traction control off though. I never tell her about changes so she is a blind test subject (had to tell her to switch off traction control so she had some notice there). So far, she sees no difference in the "L", really likes the traction control off and right now is unaware that the stage one is installed. I'll run a Gtech once the wind and rain and snow dies down, maybe Saturday.
