No shift tone in 2007 models?
So, I finally hit my 1000mile break in period on the way home today, and decided to get the car up in the RPM range. I pushed it a little far to show a friend the shift tone, and nothing! I hit 9500rpms and instead, the car just gave me the good old rev limiter / gas shutoff. WTF?
I thought that the whole point of the rotary was its unbelievable ability to keep revving past the redline, hence the shift tone? I know the governor is safer, but come on... the tone is just cooler!
Has anyone else experienced this or am I just an oddity?
*edit, the beep works. I just heard it this morning a couple of times loud n' clear

Yep, just checked again in 1st, 2nd and 3rd... no shift tone. Windows up, air off, no radio. 8500rpm's and NADA.
Are there any MAZDA people on here that can explain this?

Are all of you going WOT when you are hearing it? I must admit that I am gradually increasing the rpms to the range and never have I put the pedal to the floor.
Reading through this... this is such a noobish post for me, and I apologize. I'm pissed because I babied this car for 1000 miles, and was waiting for the beep to be like a little voice that said "Welcome to the club". Normally, I don't nitpick over this ****, but when the MSRP of a car starts around $34K, if it's supposed to beep, then it damn well better beep.

The beep is totally useless. I can't hear it over the sound of the engine unless I'm listening for it, and if I'm listening for it then I already know I have to shift soon. Kind of defeats the purpose.

Hey, I don't know who the A-hole was that started this thread, but I hear my beep fine. 1st, 2nd, 3rd... every time.
Wait, that was me. Yep, I tried it again this morning getting on the highway on the way to work... it beeps every time, right at about 9K rpms. Sorry for the post. I had a moment of weakness, and anger.
And yes, that beep is extremely rewarding.
