Noisy Tranny in Neutral
This is about the thirtieth thread on this issue in 2 years. It has been going on and on and on and on......and my car sucks at it too.
If anyone from Mazda is reading this, then please pull yer thumb out of yer engineering ass_ole and fix the issue. Thousands and Thousands of RX8 owners totally hate the noise your gearbox makes in neutral. Please invest some bucks into some gearbox NVH work. If it means increasing the MSRP of the car by a few bucks, then I for one will still go for it.

Crankshaft Damper Pulley

The bottom one on the forward nose end of the crank..however looking at yer picture, it just looks like a pulley wheel. If it were a torsionally tuned damper it would be a pulley ring, a rubber ring and a center-hub. The center-hub is the tuned mass and the rubber ring acts as an isolator to the Front End Accessory Drive. Alternatively, Mazda may have put the engineering into the flywheel at the back of the engine. Whatever the case, the gearbox rattles and so the crankshaft torsional vibrations are responsible.
Happy whirring!
