Not just the average LS2 coil question
From those who have installed an LS2 coil on either their NA or FI rx8, which model did you install? More specifically, dont say a D585 or D510C, what is the part # stamped on the unit itself? Anybody have a close up shot of the coil? What are the dwell times on your coils?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Idk, Brice from race roots actually sent me a link on ebay when I asked if he knew what model number I had to order. So I just copied the link and bought them. I'll see if I have the link in my PM's and I'll take a look and send you the model #.

yes, he doesn't sell the coils. i bought the ls2 wiring harness from him though, made my own bracket and saved a crap load over the BHR ignition upgrade although it's a great product i can make my own mounting brackets...
thank god for ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LS2-Y...0#ht_729wt_939
sorry. couldn't find the coil information

So let me ask the dumb question then. So I assume since you mentioned making your own brackets that the ls2 or yukon coils are not just a drop in to the factory placement?

Yes.
I bought the wires and wiring harness from brice as well as the spark plugs. The coils were off of ebay. I bought a 4 ft long piece of 3/4"X1/8" alluminum and made a bracket that looks almost exactly like the BHR one except I mounted my braket to the factory one. I have pics somewhere let me see if I can post them from my phone

Ok. I can't send them from my phone to the forum. PM me your email address and I can email you the pictures of the bracket I made if you want them.

If you want to email me the pictures as well. I'll host them, and then repost into this thread. I'm super interested in this, as I have a spare set of coils from my '03 GMC Yukon sitting around in storage waiting to get used. I replaced the stockers chasing an ignition problem in that truck awhile back (turned out to be an abraded sensor wire in the harness!), so these are still in good condition, just need to get used!!!

well if you sold it in pieces i would have just bought the harness from you silly. but you made the harness available wholesale to other sellers. and at the time i bought it your website said "check back later" or in other words "go F yourself" or something like that.
glad to see the website is up and available now
anywho.......
my dog got alittle close to the table and my phone auto focused on her face instead of the brackets but you will get the point, she always tries to help out.
as you can see it is all attached to a flat piece of aluminum but it was planned as the holes were placed so they would line up with the tacked bolts on the factory bracket. i'll take pics of it in the car tomorrow because i was going to do an oil change and clean the MAF anyway and it's only a few extra steps. and yes, i do sit in that little kids chair when i work at my low table. for some reason i can sit at it longer without my back hurting. i know it's funny. my girlfriend thinks it's funny too, i sit at it when i do anything that will take more than 10 minutes

All these d585 coils, and nobody can confirm the part # stamped on the coil itself? It should say 19005218...
My kit is custom as well, but not because I wanted to save $ from BHR because I think their kit is slick, but because I had access to the coils for c h e a p. Just want to be sure they are the right ones....

No
I stupidly assumed that what Charles said meant it was a "welfare" or handout from one person to another, like" here sell my stuff" because the BHR website was a long time coming. then i saw the length of the harness on your site and noticed a big difference. your harnesses are much shorter and in hindsight would have looked better where i mounted the coils.
as quoted from Blackhaloracing.com
The Black Halo Racing Ignition System addresses these concerns in a very simple manner. Our patent-pending coil conversion harness allows a true “plug-and-play” installation that doesn’t require you to cut, splice or otherwise alter any wiring in your RX8. The GM ignition coils we use emit more current and voltage than the Mazda ignition coils while providing much longer life over the stock system. The GM coils are used in many racing applications and rival any coil in the aftermarket.
This kit is a must have for any RX8 owner and requires no tuning or other modifications to function properly.
The kit contains a baseplate, coil brackets, GM coils, a patent-pending plug-and-play conversion harness, and custom-built MSD spark plug wires, all pre-assembled for easy installation. It also includes a 1-year warranty on all parts, materials, and workmanship.
well this is a quote form your website. if i'm missing something maybe it should have been made more clear from your sales dept exactly what i would be getting when purchasing a product like this. BHR doesn't sprinkle magic beans over their coils, do they? as quoted above the kit contains a baseplate, GM coils, custom cut wires and a plug and play harness.
please explain to me how i didn't purchase GM LS2 coils, custom cut wires and a plug and play harness.
i made my own bracket for 2 reasons. i love working on my car and making things myself, and i saved $$$. not a lot of money but enough to make me feel good about making the bracket myself.
BHR's ignition system is a great product that almost everyone in this community is proud to post in their signature that they have, and has truly helped a lot of people with constantly replacing a weaker stock unit. if it wasn't for your ignition system a lot of people would be out a lot of money. but if you have the means an identical outcome can be had for less money. about $85 less.
oh congrats on the website going up. Tons of helpful info not just sales stuff. I like.

thanks, i'm going outside to do a little cleaning, i'll take a picture in the car.
my only disappointment was that the ignition wires i ordered were a little short. they make contact without stretching but i would have liked 2" extra. (make all the jokes you want)

Well, cheap is relative.. its all in who you know. For brand new they were cheap, used ones I'm sure would be cheaper, but who wants used coils
I guess I'll just go forth and install/test the ones I have and we'll see how it goes..
If only I knew somebody who could tune an accessport

Thanks but I'll take warranty I looked long and hard at doing this last year and in the end you save a about $100.00 for a lot of hassle and no warranty. I was getting a new engine and wanted it to start from day on on a set of LS coils so I bought the BHR kit.
