o2 sensor...

well i am planning on taking my car in to Mazda to get the tranny looked at. my only question is do any of you know if they will try to void my warranty since i have a mid-pipe with no cat and an o2 simulator that has been hard wired in? i don't want to have to go buy a new o2 sensor but i'm afraid that once they get up under the car and see what under there they will try anc claim that the warranty has been voided out.

did a search but couldn't find anything useful. so i guess any info on if my warranty will be ok would be great. thanks in advance!

Hope that you dont' have to buy an o2 sensor. The sensor in teh cat is 150.00, atleast you still have the main sensor, i had to replace that (damaged during removal) and that is 300 dollars!!! I wouldn't think that they would void the warranty for the tranny, but if they do see the pipe with the simulator, they may void the engine/exhaust warranty. Kinda depends on how the people in the service dept are. I always look for modded employee cars before i feel safe.

goodluck

yeah well the threads on the o2 sensor are stripped from removing it from the stock midpipe. your right though, i beleive the part i need to replace would be about $140-150...thats suspension money!

my guess is if your dealer is a bunch of tools they will try to associate the exhaust with agressive driving and not want to fix any tranny problems... you may have a decent dealer though which would know they legally can't void warranties on parts unless they can prove a mod caused the part to fail.

You could get in more trouble than you think... one of local RX8 guys had a B&B midpipe and got busted by his dealer when he went in for a cracked AC button:

The fact that your midpipe violates federal laws makes this a bigger issue than just voiding your exhaust warranty, which they apparently might try to hold over your head.

All the above is correct, you sould go in first without your 8 and level with them. They cannot do anything if they don't see your CATLESS 8 with their own eyes. As soon as a tech starts your 8 they will know somethings up.

well a friend of mine is a tech with them and he saw it last time he did the oil change...he also noticed the tranny fluid all over the place. all he could say is be careful. i'm gonna go and talk to the service manager sometime tomorrow and see what he says. he also drives an 8 with some mods on it. luckily for him it is all mazdaspeed...i don't have that kind of money just yet! but both of the service managers are very cool people(and one is an extremely hot female!!!) but i guess i'll see whats up!

ok so i went today and talked to my friend who is a tech at my dealership...basically he said not to worry abuot it since he will be doing the work on my car. he took a look at it and the tail shaft is leaking fluid. so my car goes in tuesday to get a ew tail shaft and oil change! the parts guy also said that he will warranty out my o2 sensor and try to give me a new one.

my only question is...

the whole reason i had the o2 eliminator on my car was so the CEL light would come on. he seems to think that i don't need the eliminator and that just screwing the sensor in to the test pipe would work fine. now i know there are 2 sensors in the exhaust. they say the main reading for A/F comes from the first one and the second one in the mid pipe area is pretty much a back up.

has anyone esle put in a test pipe(B&B catless midpipe) on their car and just plugged the o2 sensor into it without the fooler sensor??? and if you have is your CEL on?

thanks again for any info!
