odd....

Maybe I just never noticed this before, but when I have my car jacked up, with the wheels off in neutral, the rear wheels spin slowly?

Didn't touch the gearbox or diff during the winter, so i guess this is just something i never noticed before?

You have a standard tranny, the car is in the air and the engine is on? This is typical.

Cant speak for an auto.

In the winter with the tranny cold my car would roll forward in neutral. Once I put synthetic lube in the tranny that tendancy went away. Point being that there seems to be a fair amout of viscous drag in the gearbox and that would explain what you're seeing.

My motorcycle does this when its on the center stand. The mainshaft bearing grabs the input shaft bearing slightly due to the viscosity of the oil. What it really means is that the rest of the bearings in your car roll really nicely.

there's still a good amount of friction between trans bearings with the input shaft turning at 750+ rpm, with the drivetrain up in the air it's enough to drive the wheels, but any additional friction like the e-brake on, the wheels on the ground etc will prevent them from moving
