oil build up

Hello, I have a couple of questions about my car. My 6-sp rx-8 has 30,000 miles. I got an oil change as I do every 3,000 miles. When I went the jiffy lube guy said I have a lot of engine sludge. He told me that this is sometimes normal for a rotary engine. Is this true? Also I looked at my exhaust tips this morning. I noticed a build up of oil at the front of the tips. I had just driven the car aggressively. Is this normal or does it sound like I am having engine problems.

thanks for any help

If you're talking about soot/ash at the tailpipe? Its normal.

Change your own oil. It's not that hard and you will know that it is done right. The Jiffy Lube guy is probably trying to up-sell you an engine flush. Not needed if you change your oil regularly.

All rotary engines have soot on the tailpipes.
