Oil change at dealership and they went to Pennzoil
I took my car into my dealership to have a few things looked at and to have my oil changed, when I got my car back I found a sticker on my windshield that showed they changed my oil at a 10 minute Pennzoil oil change place....what the fuc% Shouldn't they have put a genuine mazda oil filter on it?

In that case, I'd not go back to that dealership. They obviously don't value/promote the mazda genuine parts.. (I'm not saying that mazda parts are better then others... but when you as a customer go to a mazda dealer, you kind of expect them to use mazda parts!)

Not to mention that you probably paid close to $40 for an oil change that you could have paid about $26 for yourself, and that the dealership probably paid about $20 for. I am going to go check my windshield now. I just had mine done, and if they used a quick lube place, and I am going to call and complain, and tell them that if the quick lube place is good enough, then I am going to cut them out and go straight to the quick lube and save the money myself.

I checked in at my local quick lube and they said that they keep a couple of OEM Mazda filters in stock just in case one comes in. Prolly the same thing at the one that your car went to.

No I didn't get any paperwork/told that they went to Pennzoil oil change...I picked up my car and noticed it on the way home. The oil filter doesn't even say mazda on it. Doesn't mazda oil filters have their name on it? It's just a plain black oil filter??
In any case, there shouldn't be a Pennzoil oil change sticker on my car.

why do people continue to drive away from their dealerships after service without getting and reading the paperwork? i dont understand this at all. why does the dealership let it happen? they should insist that you sign for the work when you pick up the car. one copy for them one copy for mazda if there is warrenty work done and one copy for you.
have you called the dealership? what did they say?

Just to clarify something, Mazda OEM oil filters are higher quality than most aftermarket ones, it is not just a sales pitch! If your engine blows up and you were using an aftermarket filter will they fix your engine? NO! They have nothing to lose so why should they produce top quality filters?
Performance/top of the line aftermarket filters may be a different story though, but then they probably cost the same or even more than OEM.
I wouldn't stand for an aftermarket filter from a dealer...

I have my oil checked out by Blackstone Labs when I change it and will keep my eye on the results to make a judgment on the Pennzoil I now have in my RX-8. Up to this point I have been using Castrol GTX and the test results were within the normal range.

Not to mention the fact that they're required by the corp to find other problems with your car when you bring it in. Getting your oil changed at jiffy lube is akin to getting blood work in a back alley.
Jiffy lubes are responsible for so many mazda 3s and mazda 6i failures its hard to count. Dealerships love them. Owner tries to save 10 dollars, dealership gets 5800 USD.
Quick summary of recent issues...
1) Forced wrong sized oil filters on the car.
2) Failure to replace o-rings in cartridge systems.
3) Using wrong sized o-rings to save 25 cents.
4) Shoving a completely incorrect cartridge filter into the housing.
5) Starting the car, moving it, then realizing it has no oil in it.
6) Overfilling the oil.
7) Underfilling the oil.
8) Using the wrong spec oil. (Usually from bulk containers)
9) Using the cheapest availble filter (usually frams with cardboard endcaps)
http://rsx.freewebpage.org/index.htm
10) Forgetting to put the oil filter on entirely.
11) Leaving the oil cap off
12) Forgetting to put the dipstick back in
13) Forgetting to put the drain plug back on
14) Overtorquing the drain plug and stripping the oil pan.
15) Overtorquing and destroying the oil filter gasket, causing an oil leak.
