OIl Consumption

Oil Consumption
When purchasing my car, the dealer mentioned about checking the oil every so often (every Gas fill up). Has anyone determined the rate oil consumption yet? or at least an average?
I've been checking it , but haven't noticed any significant changes yet.
Well, I guess another way to ask that question would be how often do you top your oil off?
Thanks,

My car uses between 1/4 and 1/2 qt about every 2000 miles. I still check it every two or three fillups (gas), but mine at least doesn't use oil that fast. So there is some variability. You have to get the rhythm of your car. Just one of those fun little things to do... :-)

Either your engine was significantly overfilled when new, or you have some serious oil dilution issue, or you really aren't using any oil. I doubt it's the last as from what I understand the engine would not be able to generate compression without an oil film.

I have found that my car uses a consistant 1 1/4 quart every 2500 miles. I thought this is a bit much. I admit I drive it pretty hard, but is this usage "normal" for the renisis.

I have 6000 mi and have found that for the first 3000 using 5w-20 I needed to replenish more often. The second 3000 miles I have used 5w-30 it doesn't seem to burn it as bad. Make sense to anyone else or has my elevator stopped hitting the penthouse?

I was just wondering about oil consumption. I've got about 8k miles on my car right now and have never needed to add oil. I've had two oil changes done to the car. I checked it last weekend and was about 3/4 on the dip stick. I don't really drive the car hard at all, I'm pretty smooth most of the time.

I purchased mines last year around June and one of the problems I had was that they had to change the oil pan and sensor, something about relocation and a recall. Once they did the oil pan change now I don't have to put oil but once every other month and that's about a quart, regardless how many times I fill up which is at least twice a week because I never drive normal. I have never gotten 24mpg I've gotten as low a 10 and 11mpg when I'm gunning it all the time and about 18-20mpg. I did installed a KN filter and athat cause it tio be peppier and give me better mileage. You can put a KN filter and not void the warranty, but if you put a fresh air intake then you void the warranty and you're on your own it's what the Mazda dealer told me here before I installed it.

i wonder if oil consumption is related to the way the vehicle is broken in, because for the evo, if you broke it in "correctly", the evo doesnt consume any oil at all, so i am wondering whether the method of break in will affect future oil consumption.

I've driven my 8 so far about 1000 miles. (It had 16k on it when I bought it). I've put about 1 quart in... but I'm not sure how much you can read into that. The cat was clogged, and it was drinking fuel.. 10-11 MPG while babying it.
Now that the cat is fixed, I've topped it off and we'll see how long it'll be before I had to add more.

Allmotor, my (limited) understanding is that the rotary engine uses oil as part of its design. Comparing oil consumption in the RX8 to the Evo isn't a good idea, as the two engines function very differently. No matter what you do during your break-in period, your 8 will still consume oil in everyday operation. How much it consumes is probably dependent on how hard you flog it.
A question that I have for all of you-
The dipstick has a low and high mark on it. At what point do you let your oil level go to before you add? If the oil gets to the low mark, how much must you add to get it to high?
