Oil Pressure?

Since I have owned the car,the oil pressure gauge has read 2 lines to the right of the center line. Is this normal? I have 2000 miles on my 8 and the gauge constantly reads this way. Does it effect mileage? Dealer said it is not a problem. hmmm? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's not really a pressure gauge, more of an indicator - it's ether on 'L' or it's two clicks past center - it's not representing actual pressure, just 'Normal' or 'Tow Home'. It may as well be an oil pressure light.

yeah, Sputnik (a little while ago now) noted this, just as it is in the later Miatas (too many idiot yuppies worrying about their normally fluctuating oil pressure as they drove around to stay with the analogous one)

there've obviously been fixes for this done by the Miata crowd for Miatas, and he said he might wanna get to work or at least look into helping with a fix (using a redundant analog sender to the meter if at all possible, or something)...

anyways, yeah, it's an idiot light, been that way from day 1.

Damn...I feel rather insulted now.

Is that thing run off an actual sender, or is it ECU controlled once again?

ECU signal (binary). but this is where the tricky part comes in, and you fool the ECU, and hook up an analog sender to your guage ... somehow...

Hi, Jimboe,

I have my car now for 5 days and I noticed that also. I didn't pay further attention to that gauge as I intend to mount (dealer) a digital oil-level gauge. I presume that position is normal.

regards
Patrick

seems you know...since we all drive a "race" car we should have real race car gadgets instead of idiot lights but Mazda has once again insulted it's following crowd...now if I were actually smart enough to do what Wakeech states....

Hell, I'd settle for a functioning gauge with "some fluctuation is normal" stencilled on the bottom, a la "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear."
