Oil Warning Light Question
On my 2004 6 speed I've had the oil warning light come on a few times recently while crusing ~75mph for long periods between Chicago and Cincinnati. There's absolutely no doubt about proper oil level. I change it myself and check it before every trip.
When this happens there is no power loss, no change in performance, the (fake) oil pressure gauge doesn't waver; only the warning light comes on for a few seconds.
I found the TSB for malfunctioning oil level sender in the '04 models last night, and made arrangements to take the car to the dealer next week to have it checked out. I don't have a code reader or I'd tell you the code it's throwing.
My question: If the oil metering system was malfunctioning, does the oil warning light come on for that too, or is the oil warning light only for the level indicator in the oil pan? Dealer couldn't answer that one, but he said he's never seen a case of OMP failure in the RX-8's they service. They are a pretty good shop (Jeff Wyler Mazda, Batavia, OH).
Thanks in advance, and yes I searched, but didn't find much other than pre-mix and synthetic oil chatter.

OK, many thanks guys! I'll drive home in confidence that it's just the oil level sender prob until my shop visit next week.
PS, a little Cialis in your tank also prevents the 'limp' mode for up to 36 hours!
