The AT would **** itself, or should I say crap itself, it would not cope with the extra HP.

Actually an automatic would be an ideal platform for a turbo. Since turbochargers are load based (as opposed to a supercharger which is RPM based) an automatic would benefit the best with a turbo charger.

If you were to trade in for a manual you'd end up losing thousands in the cost of the car alone due to the poor trade in values for the RX8. I'd work with what you have.

You know what Todd?
i'd be curious to try on of those 5 gears transmissions that came with 4 ports here. Since most of the fd3s parts fit in there maybe they would be an upgraded option instead of a downgrade...
Don't know if it is the same trasmission as the fd3s though, any input?

sounds good thanks for the help. im going to stick with my car. money wise its the best option although i hate that its automatic. it would be a hell of alot cheaper to turbo it instead of trading it in and then spending money wit the trade in and turbo. so yeah sounds good. i wish there was a way to get the 6speed auto instead of my 4 speed.. but o well. thanks a lot guys.. hopefully ill see some of u around..never know..

I would ask why the "Engineers" at Mazda who designed and put your car together had two different engines.

The 4 speed Auto, one a 4 port less HP lower revving engine and the 6 port higher HP and Higher revving Manual Trans.

As we know, later the 6 speed Auto with 6 port engine, BUT, with a lower revving limiter when compared to the Manual...Why?..

The Auto trans torque converter can not handle High RPM or load.

this can be discussed. There are users with higher revving autos that encountered no issues.

Why did honda release different engines on their Civics? A weaker one and the K20 for the Si? There's even a hybrid engine and another one in Europe/Japan?

It's called trim buddy. Different engines = different $$$. The 4 port/5MT are sold at a lower price.

09's Auto's and Manual's both have 6 port engines, Max Power RPM (kw) has been limited to 7500 RPM for Auto compared to 8200 RPM for the manual.

If there was not an issue with the Auto, then why won't Mazda let them rev to 8200 RPM?

How do you turbo a car after you trade it in?

You don't own it anymore....

i really dont understand the revving difference between auto n manual. i grew up with rx7's and they have always redlined at 10,000. when i got my rx8 i was a little curious why the redline was set at 8000 and i noticed on the manuals it was 9000...whats with the etrxa 1000 rpms? my car reaches highest power at 7200 according to dyno spec.'s provided online. so idk. i miss the old 1st gen rx7's with a 13b ported running nos hitting 11's street legal..

aside from this beautiful topic..huh anyone have any ideas about converting the rx8 to all wheel drive?

You're saying stock 7's redline at 10k?

FB and FC redlines at 7k.

FD redlines at 8k.

FE/SE (aka RX-8) redlines at 9k.

I want some of what ever it is that you are smoking.

Since you've been around a bunch of rotaries and you seem to be pretty knowledgeable about them, why the hell did you create this thread then?

Me? Fail? I must disagree with you there. The one who fail is you, who didn't even bother to search since there are countless threads on "OMFG! SHOULD I TURBOz MY AT 8?!"

^exactly....the 8'swill rev out to 10k too hell it could prob go to 15k but i'm not saying it will stay in one piece....

as for kit's 5500 is gonna be the CHEAPEST you're gong to be spending unless you buy used....think you need a turbo kit..gauges, (should get the AP for tuning) and if you don't know how to tune then pay someone to tune....easily 5500...

as for kit's DO NOT GO WITH EBAY ****!
I believe the Esmeril kit is (on record in this forum making 414 to the wheels) but I belive that kti alone is out of your price range....

I forsee a LOT LOT LOT of searching in your future!

Not only that, I would like to see your transmission surviving past 10k RPM, oh, yeah, I obtained this info by searching. SOMETHING YOU SHOULD DO!

Also, you drive an AT, I sure hope to see your transmission failing on you at 9k.
