Out of the blue 2nd gear grind

Hello I back to post another one of my trouble shooting adventures (#3 that I have posted that is) and have made this to compile a bunch of info I found over the last couple of days

SORRY I POSTED IN WRONG FORUM I THOUGHT I CLICKED “S1 TROUBLESHOOTING😭😭

BEFORE I HEAR “YoUr SYncHro’s BaD AidAN”
OR “YoU JUst SlaMMEd IntO second tO mUcH”

I’m going of some troubleshooting I have found on this forum and YouTube.

A back story to a week before this grind showed up

I was leaving an underground parking lot and I scraped the living hell outta the bottom end, just absolutely ate it. After getting on the highway and having some high rpm fun I take my exit and slow down to a red. Boom I hear this annoying *** shake and vibration. My first thought “must be the exhaust came loose somewhere” I was busy for a week so didn’t get to tackle it till a week later (I took my motorcycle to work that week anyway) find it’s come off the hanger, I fix that and don’t drive car again for another week (took the rice rocket to work again).

I took my car out last weekend to see the gf and vibration is still there but still drove cuz I assumed I maybe missed another broken hanger, I casual revving up go to second and I get an insane grind. Do some testing and troubleshoot all week.

My reasons for thinking it’s not my synchro:

1. Stopped car doesn’t slip into 2nd when clutch pedal is NOT press (just like any other gear)
2. At low rpm shifts like butter like before this underground parking mishap
3. While stopped (NOT MOVING) rev up to 6k rpm and shift into second I grind (from 3rd to 2nd or 1st to 2nd)
4. While driving slow and do a sharp turn (ie a U-turn) it grinds
5. Fresh redline MT90 while redoing all the above, still grinds
5. Came across a “Japanda tuning” video and he had same issue out of no where and he did his motor mounts and solved his issue
6. Look at my mounts and holy duck the passenger one is blown like a trucker who stopped for an escort

I have ordered some mounts off Rx8 performance and I’m waiting for them to come and I’ll give an update on them

If this doesn’t work I’ll check that bar that is under the tranny, I forget what it’s called the PPF maybe is it’s name?

Based on my troubleshooting I have good odd that when I slapped the ground while leaving that parking lot I must have hit it so hard my exhaust yanked on my engine and broke the mounts. (They where probably out the door already tbh (originals from 04)) PS- I have yet to have my slave show up that I ordered over a month ago but I still plan on putting that in, will post in the post I made for it.

If you have had same issue and want to pm me about symptoms and talk through some things feel free to pm me, this could save me or you a lot of money (mounts where $450 cad) and cheapest tranny rebuild I was quoted in my area was 2k (including synchro)

Hey there, I snooped to see roughly where you’re located. You in the Greater Vancouver region? I’m asking cause of the transmission oil selection. I’ve tested a few different brands on my daily driver 2010 and found RedLine MTLV works best in my area (https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tec...-fluid-270351/).
Engine mounts definitely affect shifting. When you hit was anything bent? I’d expect it would take quite a whallop to shift the PPF. Check the alignment in this thread or search yourself (https://www.google.com/url?client=in...QGSwiBRs&arm=e).

you’ll be lucky if you can get it rebuilt for $2k CAD, more like $3k imo because the Mazda parts are very expensive even if they use an aftermarket synchro and bearing kit. They probably never rebuilt that trans before and are only estimating. That’s why people look for a used replacement instead, but that’s a well going drier by the day as they become fewer and farther between with higher and higher mileage.
