PCM Programing

Does anyone know of a "reasonably" price SAE J2534 pass-thru device, out there anywhere?

Both Ford http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdi...sp?menuIndex=2
and Mazda http://www.mazdatechinfo.com/ will happily sell you the latest PCM updates online for about $30

But you need the "SAE J2534 pass-thru device" to put between your PC and the car.

They both have links to http://www.drewtech.com/
Which they have certified are working to upload thier updates, but the Drewtech interface is about $1600 w/cables.

I have the Autoxray EZ-Scan 6000 ($600), that I got specifically to read codes on my RX-8 and M6 CAN protocol. Which works great, by the way. It has what appears to be a ethernet connector on it, but they don't seem interested in programming it as a pass-thru device, for long term logging, or uploading.

This all doesn't seem like it should be all that complicated or expensive to me. Seems like bulk sales should already have something on the market.

It looks to me that the SAE J2534 is just a "hub" or a "bridge". So if you have ethernet from your EZ-Scan and from the car then a hub should work to connect and upgrade. See http://www.drewtech.com/ about the DHCP writing.

Does your EZ-scan come with a J2534 driver? If so it should be OK.

Also have a look at the "Python" from Dearborn. It comes with a J2534 driver, for around $495US I recall, plus OBDII cable to suit. http://www.dgtech.com/product/python/python.php

I purchased a Multiplex Engineering CAN interface for about $80US. www.multiplex-engineering.com. Paul Bowen has been very helpful towards me. The units are very well made, but doesn't come with a J2534 device driver. I am looking at writing my own. I have written some software to talk to the PCM and get real time data through. Very interesting being able to monitor things like WB02 and cat temps...

Cheers,
Hymee.

I've got a cardaq, which drewtech makes.. but I have no idea how to actually flash the PCM on the Rx-8 with it.. It's 2534 compatable, has the libraries etc... I suppose you'd jst dump the file over the bus. You'd probably need a special upload command first, and a check of the return code afterwards to make sure it ran ok.

Hmm, I looked on the MAzdatechinfo website, and it looks like their application interfaces with the j2534 tool. That would cover it pretty cleanly. Anyone care to get the app and a PCM? IT would be 100% ideal for an attempt (however feeble) at reverse engineering or gleaning some kind of information about the rx-8 ecu..

I have "the App". I have an interface. Working on a J2534 driver for it. I don't have a calibration to try to flash with.

I wonder what Mazda's position on sharing the Calibration & app data is. Is it all considered copyright data, needed to be legitimately purchased by each user, or is it more like: you have an RX-8, so you already have the data..

The CarDaq already has a J2534 library (Plus full source code!!)

Hmm...

ps.
Want the CarDaq data? I'd like to see that app.. If you're not willing to share, I can understand. The cardaq data is here: http://www.drewtech.com/Support/Regi...oad/cardaq.zip
