A Place for Reading Glasses
At the age of sixty I find that while I can see down the road just fine, I need to put on some spectacles to get a good look at the nav system or radio, or whatever. I keep a pair of cheap granny glasses in the car, the skinny ones that I can look through at the instruments, or over to see down the road (and in my wife's car, and a dozen pair laying around the house - go ahead and laugh, you young pudknockers; you'll get there, too, maybe).
I only put 'em on to look at the dash; the rest of the time they're stashed - somewhere. There was no convenient place to put them, where I could reach out and seize upon them quickly.
Until today, that is. While the dealer was installing the Sirius radio my wife has given me for Christmas, I had the guy pull the lighter unit out of dash. I figured I'd make a PVC tube with a flange on it to drop into the hole and put my specs in that.
As it turns out, no need for the tube. With the female unit gone, there's a sleeved hole there with something or other at the bottom that acts as a stop when I drop the glasses in. It lets the glasses go in just far enough to allow the lid to close, but leaves enough of 'em sticking up to let me grab 'em easily.
So now I'm all set.
