Please help, rx8 dying
Hi,
have searched forums, but was wondering if anyone could tell me if these symptons are related? i bought my 04 rx8 6 months ago, i noticed the check engine coolant light coming on wen i drove at speeds over 50mph, then only yesterday i checked oil and it was creamy like baileys, i read on here that is pretty normal in cold codnditions, but i topped oil up, went for a drive and the CEL light come on??
Cheers Grant

Well, regarding the check coolant light - I am assuming you did check the coolant, right? All levels normal?
The frothy oil is normal.
How is the power? Pulling hard all the way to 9k? Hesitation? Flashing CEL anytime? Any odd smells? Exhaust, glowing cat, etc?
With a mysterious check engine light, its worth a trip to autozone and have them pull the CEL code. That would be the next thing to do.
How many miles?
Auto or MT?

If the coolant level was OK, there is a thread in the Tech section about the coolant sensor in the overflow tank failing. Replacing the whole overflow tank is the only fix (~$150), otherwise just disconnect the sensor and keep check on your coolant during oil level checks.
Milky oil has been covered at length, normal at cold temps and does not harm engine. Agree, get the code pulled more than likely gas cap (I've been thru 3 on my 04), but you need to find out what it is.

CEL flashing means a miss fire... I know you've only owned it for 6 months, but it may be time for new plugs first... then possibly coils.
It will flash until the miss fire stops and then it will go back to solid.
Pull the codes for sure now.
... However, that has nothing to do with your coolant light... Its possible the coolant seals on the rotary housings are starting to leak... BUT if that was the case, you would notice a TON a white smoke from the burning coolant and dramatic power loss.

Oh Dear!!
Hey guys, just took it out for a spin, not loosing power at all now and CEL light is solid, but when i hit around 4500rpm there is a noise like a grinding bearing , it gets louder and louder, and when it slows down it whistles/high pitch whine any thoughts??

Dude... not to be rude, but if you were out driving around, again... why didn't you stop in someplace and pull the code? Problems don't just go away with time.

Uses the term "Motorway" and speaks in terms of money in "pounds", so I'm gonna guess he's in the UK.........my dear Watson!
Probably doesn't have an Autozone handy!
Grant, it does help a little bit to add your location to your profile. You may find someone close by will pop in on this thread and offer to read it for free........but not if they don't know where you are.
So how'd I do anyway?

^ you guys are stupid.
I would limp the car only IF you must drive it. Otherwise, I would find other transportation if you're able.
