plugs and wires question
hey guys, i'm fairly new to rotaries, my older brother bought a 79 brand new when i was a wee lad. anyways oct 07 i picked up a 04 6spd with 33k miles. seemed to run ok and i drove about 6 others before picking this one. sooo i drove it a few times over the winter in good conditions. i noticed that the car didnt idle smoothly as others said rotaries are very very smooth. well today while checking my oil i decided to get my drop light and have look around. low and behold i found a plug wire dangling freely. it was the one way down near the cross member. so judging from the rust on the tip of the plug it was like this for who knows how long. i cleaned the tip and snapped the boot back on it and she runs better than ever. so my question....any ill affects to the engine being like that for some time? the wire look orig so what kind should i replace them with? i've had magnecores on past cars and liked them. should i put new plugs too? thanks for any pointers!

Plugs should be replaced on stock engines about 30K and most people replace wires about 5yrs or 60K miles. Might be a good time to do both. Use NGK plugs and any good quality wires.

I'd throw a set of plugs in there just to be safe; might need them especially if the previous owner didn't do all the maintenance.
Stick with the NGK plugs, they're really the best option for our cars. Also, they were slightly redesigned after the launch of this car to help with reduding flooding.
Wires should be good but if you want, the Racing Beat ones are darn good. (they're on my car now)
Check the DIY section for a spark plug removal thread, lots of good info there.

quick question guys, i just installed the mazdatrix ignition wire, however, i kinda screwed up on that i managed to use the 2 shorter ones on the rear rotor and the 2 longer ones on the front rotor.
i just wanna make sure that it's okai, furthermore, i did test run afterwards and it seems to pull fine and everything, but it's probably just me being stupid but i swear the engine sounds a bit different.
anyway, if by chance one of the wire falls off, would the check engine light come on instantly? thanks XD

Why not just switch them back around? If one of the wires ends up resting against something hot because it's either too long or too short you could see a degradation in performance over time. Also if you had to kink the shorter ones to get them to reach that could cause long term problems as well.

No, your motor will drop out of the car on the highway and explode.

thanks for the response.
it ran fine and strong this morning, but i did notice one fo the longer coil had too much slack and was touching the motor housing (i moved it out of the way)
