Poor gas mileage and low track speeds

Its my turn to complain.

I believe members of this forum have heard too much gripe about the 8.

Lower then expected hp, 0-60 and 1/4 mile times shy of the advertised numbers, gas mileage that sucks to high heaven.

Well people of this forum, its time to come to the realization that all these test are being performed on cars that are not even broken in yet.

In time, with some reasonable travel distance on your 8's, those mileage and performance numbers will improve. Anyone who does not believe this has never owned a brand new car, or they never took the time to check.

I kept a log book on my 83 RX-7, wrote everything in there, from fuel purchases, oil and light bulb changes to the nasty flat tire I got. The first fuel fill, with all highway travel netted me a misely 27mpg. A year later with over 12,000 miles I netted 32mpg.

Just wait, let 6 months go bye and then dyno, fuel check and post those numbers.

Most of you are getting all your nickers in a knot over little **** that really does not matter.

If you are in here complaining about gas mileage, then you should have bought a saturn.

If your complaining about it burning too much oil, then you should have not bought a rotary powered car.

If your beef is about the reported 247hp with a drop to 238 and dyno's with 190 or so, then you should have bought a porsche.

The renesis engine is new. A technology pulled from death because of emission problems and redesigned to meet those demands. This engine has 1/1000th (or maybe less) of the time and money spent on developed in comparison to the piston engine. The rotary engine is really light years ahead of the piston and in another dozen years, who knows. If the engine was so shitty, why was it banned from 24 hours at Daytona. Maybe because they knew that it could run on low octane and never fall apart on a track like a piston does under high stress and rpm's.

Sit back and take a close look as to why u bought an RX-8. Drive it around the block. Does it really matter that it only does a 0-60 in 6.4, who the hell races on public roads anyways. If you want to race, go buy a race car and find a track. If you want to drive, then shut up and drive your 8, cause you bought the best damn drive for the money you spent, or should I say saved.
