porting
i see a lot of talk of fi, but very little on porting. searched for some decent threads on this procedure but found some insufficient crap.
i know porting can increase hp and performance overall. how does porting affect the renesis's performance?
and how much $$/how long does this procedure take?

you didn't find anything good??? did you read CRH's thread on his RotaryGod custom ported engine?
Paul over at Mazmart also offers it.

found this on page 31 of Ray's thread:

As for driveability, the engine is silky smooth and the solid motor mounts are far more tolerable as a result. Getting the car started from a dead-stop with the 8.5 lb. flywheel is not a problem, even when I don't tweak the gas pedal, so the idle management is darn good. No MILs/CELs except for the 420.
Riding in someone else's stock 8 last weekend, I was reminded how much more power I am making, especially in the midrange. From 3,500-6,000 there is more torque but I am also starting to notice the added power from 6,000-9,000. As I get more time driving the car/engine in a properly-running condition details such as these are becoming more evident. I'll soon be able to gather Scan data with G-Tech data and see what's going on in even further detail.

haha, don't worry bout it.
Here's the thread that I got that quote from. Warning: the thread is HUGE as it dealt with not only porting but rebuilding Ray's engine.
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/rebuilding-my-renesis-115104/
(keep in mind there were some issues along the way so that quote didn't surface until page 31)
Here's what I used under Advanced Search
keyword: Porting
search thread titles only.
Side note: Guitarjunkie28 was experimenting with porting but unfortuntaly Dave passed away a little over a year ago so read his threads but you won't be able to get any direct feedback from him.

Hope that helps

i've gotten through about half of it. it's mostly answered my questions so far. it's still by far one of the best posts i have seen. i'm a huge gear head so learning about the rotary is definitely cool... hats off to rg for his expertise. 13bs and the renny are definitely amazing little chunks of metal. i haven't gotten to any numbers/results yet though.
about how much did the porting alone cost? and you said it doesn't really damage efficiency much, which is a huge plus... but that was just street port on the inlet and minor work on the exhaust (minor being a huge understatement). i wonder what other portworks, like a j port might do? if there are numbers and data sheets in the post some where, just let me know and i'll keep reading.
what a great piece mr. hill. really appreciate it.

You could make a porting template for the primary intakes only but there's more to porting than just cutting out a shape off of a template. That's probably the least important aspect of porting. It's knowing what to do underneath that makes all the difference.
