power loss question
ok, i've had my rx8 for almost a month now, i have had 3 recall checks done and it passed 2 of them (emissions and ball joint) it failed somethin' to do with the fuel programming or somethin'. so they replaced that. the car has ran fine until now. i moved the car in the laneway the other day not thinking, and i ended up flooding it. so i jack up the car take the driverside wheel off and replace the plugs. car starts working fine again for 1 day. than while driving at night i experience incredibly bad power loss at high rpm's (between 7k-9k) mostly in 2nd gear. i figured it was water in the gas at first so i added fuel deicer/dryer and it seemed to be fine until the next day. i was driving the car hard and all of a sudden same rpm range CEL starts flashing for about 10 seconds than goes off. so i slow down and try driving it hard again CEL comes on and this time stays on. today i unplugged the battery terminal and that shut off the CEL light and i also filled up with a new tank of gas. i still get the power loss at high rpms.
i made an appointment with the local mazda dealer to have it looked at on this coming wednesday. but any input would be greatly appreciated as this is stressing me right out.
thanks to all who help in advance.

next time the CEL comes on, dont clear it, you sould have got it scaned to see what code it was thowing. id say if the cel comes on take it to auto zone, they scan for free. or just wait to go to mazda.

MIL (cel for you guys) flashing means a mis-fire strong enough to damage the Catalyst. You probably have a coil or wire fault. have that checked first. while you are there u should have the compression chewcked as well. My power loss was loss of compression which in turn means a new engine.

i cranked the plugs in fairly tight but not hard enough to snap anything. and the plugs wires i pushed on good and tight, or maybe not tight enough? it also gave me power loss today. the temp outside was 28C and i was driving it hard to see if the CEL would come back on and eventually it did. it flashed a bunch of times than went off. i had power loss in 2nd at high rpm again. it was after driving for a long period of time and sitting in slow traffic.

As Shauny said , the catalytic converter could be bad or the coils.
When my cat went out I got a flashing CEL
When my coils went the CEL went from flashing to solid and then lost power so much it was not drivable.
They pulled the codes at the dealership and knew what to fix right away.
They should have both of these items in stock as this is a known issue with the 8
good luck
