Power Window Problem

Well, I've been a long time lurker and I've been meaning to do an introductory thread, but I guess my first thread is going to have to be a plea for help.

So I have a 2005 RX8, GT 6MT that I've had for a few months. Last weekend I replaced the radiator because of a leak and in doing that I disconnected the battery. The car runs fine now, but the passenger window won't roll down. The driver's window works fine, but when I press either of the buttons for the passenger window I hear a very short, faint noise and nothing happens (yes I made sure the passenger window deactivation button wasn't pressed).

I called the local Mazda dealer and they told me to do the window relearning procedure (hold switch down 'till window goes all the way down, hold a little longer, repeat going up) but my window didn't budge.

Have any of you seen this before? I'm going to head outside, pull my door panel off and see if there are any connections loose. Just want to see if there is anything I should look for before I take it to Mazda to diagnose.

Thanks!
-Tommy

Interesting...
Yeah, you might be stuck doing some basic troubleshooting with starting at one end and working back.
Taking off the door panel, checking for voltage to the motor, even pull the motor out and apply 12VDC to it (I've used the car battery).
If you already verified the window deactivation button wasn't pressed, I can't think what else would cause one window to work and not the other.

Now you mentioned hearing a sound when the passenger window button was pressed.
If you flip the deactivation switch, can you still hear the sound?
This might help tell if you should be looking at the switch itself of not.

Good luck and keep up posted of your findings.

Okay... I got the door panel off and tested the motor and both of the switches as recommended in the workshop manual.
The motor works, the passenger side switch works, the driver side switch for the passenger side window works, and the passenger window lockout works.
What I found interesting is that the driver's window switch didn't check out .
Why would the driver's window switch not checking out cause the passenger window not to work?

I heard the noise when it was unlocked, but not when it was locked indicating that it still works.

The passenger-side switch is a "sub-switch" for the driver's side.
So a fault in the driver's side switch can cause the passenger side not to work.

I'm not sure exactly what I did, but I pulled the switches on both doors off and I pulled the window motor off. Something I did reset the system. I'd start by disconnecting the switches on both doors and make sure they are well connected. If that doesn't work, pull the door panel and disconnect the motor.

I really don't know why it worked, but it worked for me.

Verify the window deactivation button wasn't pressed.
Something that can easily be overlooked... especially if you never use it and accidentally press it.
Ask me how I know...

Having an odd issue I have not seen posted here yet. On a few occassions, my drivers side power window fails to work. Today after work, I got in the car, hit both window buttons, and only the passenger side went down. I tired pullling the switch up and then down, but nothing. I could hear the drivers window switch click, but it made no attempt to engage the motor to roll the window down. The last time this happened, I hit the switch up and down a time or two and it worked, but not today. 30 minute ride home and nothing. I even shut the car off and restarted, nothing. After dinner I went out to the garage with the intention of pulling the door panel to investigate....and the damn thing is working just fine now. Any suggestions on what to look for? Bad switch? Bad window motor?

Go Steelers: I am literally having the exact same problem you mentioned. Its so annoying when I go to work in the morning and have to open my car door and get out of my seat just to swipe my badge. Did you ever find out the problem?? I don't want to go back to the Mazda dealer...

I never found a solution. It only does it occasionally, like 1-2 times per month....usually when it is warmer out.

that is weird, i used to have the same issue. I finally got it down to starting the window roll at the same-ish time as starting the car was the causing effect. I now wait a second after cranking the car (especially since its now winter, was dropping the windows quickly in the summer) and I never have a issue now.

Im having an issue with my drivers side window. When i try to lower it it will go down about 6inches then lock up and i hear the motor going (clack clack clack, etc) and when i click do go up it does the same noise. I had to get my friend to push the switch up while i pull the window up by hand. I also took off the door panel and the motor works, the little star gear is in perfect condition, not stripped or anything. I hear the clack noise coming from the housing of the motor. What could be the problem?

Exact same issue - Except I haven't been fortunate enough to leave it alone for a while and find it's working just fine (yet?). I'm going to try it at night - Maybe the heat does have something to do with it. I'm in a hot climate area, so.

Fingers crossed, hoping it's fine by tonight.

(I just registered to this forum - Bought my 2006 RX-08 about a month and a half ago. So much fun to drive. A bit of a drama queen, maintenance wise, but I lover her. So enjoyable.)

Ok, my passenger window will not go down, so I have the door panel off and have checked the switch to the motor. The switch is providing 12 volts to the motor and the motor has a slight click noise, but will not move the window. Before I buy a window regulator, have I done everything? My experience says if the volts are going to the motor and it does nothing then it is the motor, right?

(Pretty sure it was the heat. Went out that same night, window was working just fine.)

try having someone push the window down without too much force while you work the buttons, the window may just be stuck from disuse/window tint/jammed motor/stepper motor set in an awkward position/window seal rolled over. if the battery was disconnected and you free it up then you have to do the relearn procedure.

if none of that works the BCM probably thinks the window is already at the downmost extremity and will not allow it to roll down, in which case try disconnecting the battery again and do the relearn procedure.

My 05 does the same thing when it's hotter than 70 °F outside on the driver's side. It will work when it's cool but won't roll down in the heat. My friend seems the think the heat makes the connector in the motor disconnect.

Mine has been temperamental the same way on the driver side window. When it heats up outside, sometimes it works fine and sometimes it just clicks like a relay is kicking it out or something. Passenger side is always normal. No idea what is going on, since at times it is fine?

I just want to add to this: 2006 6 Speed. It does not happen all the time but when the weather is hot my passenger side window won't work. I can here the motor click but the window won't move. Once the temp goes down it will work.

Having the same issue this week, passenger window wont budge, although i'm not hearing any noises.
checked fuses and foot well connections and they appear fine, drivers side window is working normally.

b4 i start dismantling -can anyone confirm both windows work of the same fuse? (cant find a wiring diagram as all the links on here are dead!)

I'm in UK, so its April and sunny, and dropped some snow......
11-15'C outside so can rule out temperature issues
