Premixing quick question.

So I've been doing some reading on the premix thread (30/125 pages). My simple question is when you premix its just a certain amount to the gallon right? Just dump it in the tank? No other add on is needed? I've read on the alternative about the SOHN adapter and using a separate container. But what about the premix through the tank? No other modification is needed, correct? Planning to order my box of oil this week.. thanks!

Dump in the premix before fill-up then pump the gas.

If you read 30 pages... It would have told you that.

you dont have to put in the premix before adding fuel, either way is fine

Guess I must have missed it. I just wasn't sure if anything else needed to be done. I'm new to premixing so I just wanted to make sure.

I like to add premix right before I fill up at the gas station, that insures the premix is mixed.
If not the primix will sink to bottom of tank, and slowly mix, while driving spirited driving

Pour it in, around 6\8oz per tank and then filll up at the gas station
The SOHN adapter doesn't replace premix.

It definitely doesn't, but I think they go very well together!

^ +1 I use the Sohn adapter and premix. I also like to pour the 2 stroke in prior to fill up so it gets stirred up somewhat. However, it probably doesn't matter when you add it though.

I will def run both. I actually have the extra tank mounted and ready I just need to order the adapter. I actually mounted the power steering res. from a 2010 Honda odessy, not sure how well it will work, but i will post some pics if you guys would like to see it.. its a small container though.. holds maybe around 12 oz.. maybe more, think thats too small?

Thats not even a half quart. (32 ounces in a quart) I would recommend something that at least holds 1 - 1.5 quarts.

I've had a lot of 2 stroke engines over the time including motorcycles, snowmobiles, weed trimmers & lawn mowers. That oil needs to be blended into the gas. In the previous cases, you could shake up the can to do the blending. That's not possible with a car. At least, I would think you need to put it in the tank to let the incoming fuel help mix in the oil.

if the oil is going to mix it will mix just driving the car around. if you need to pour fuel in to get the oil to mix then the oil is going to separate over time anyway.

I do not agree...........i have a test bottle (red coloured synth. 2-stroke plus gasoline) standing around untouched for months already............not any separation (even the slightest) can be determined............

Best regards, Ruud

I think you misinterpreted laythor.

I think he meant that if any special measures were need to suspend the premix in gas, it would drop out of suspension eventually no matter how well mixed. However since it forms a solution instead, no special measures are required.

Oil is denser then gasoline, it will sink to the bottom of the tank anyway.

Which is why the bottom of the ocean is covered in mountains of salt.

I think water is more denser then oil. In the case of oil and water though it's due to their intermolecular forces and polarity (oil is non-polar) that keeps oil floating. PS. I hated Chem so someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Yup... Oil floats on water, and is non-polar. Water is polarized.
