Question Press down clutch and get loud noise

I just noticed a few days ago on my 04 rx8 (55k on it) that when i'm sitting at a light and in neutral the engine has it normal whine, but when I press the clutch down there is a loud whiny noise that happens. does anyone know what this is and how to fix it?

Not if you fix it yourself. Shops charges a lot when it comes to transmissions.

How long is the powertrain warranty for? Is this something that might be covered by it?

it's all a factory installed clutch system. i know my extended warranty through fidelity doesn't cover any manual transmissions or anything related to it so i'm hoping the drivetrain warranty is still in effect.

Drivetrain warranty is 5 years, 60,000 miles. You're within the 60K. If you're within the 5 years, look up the warranty. It specifically says what's covered.

Tks for the info. I looked it up and this is what it covers for the transmission. Not sure if the release bearing is part of this. Any help on this? Below is what is said to be covered.

Transmission and transaxle
Transmission Case and All Internal Parts
Torque converter
Clutch Pressure Plate
Transmission Mounts
Transfer Case and All Internal Parts
Transmission/Transaxle Control Module

Well the verdict is in and nothing on the manual tranny is covered under the extended
powertrain warranty according to the dealership.

You need to find another dealership. Preferably one with someone who can read. The covered list on the warranty card includes:

Transmission Case and All Internal Parts
Clutch Pressure Plate

They don't exclude manual transmissions. Dealer-who-can't-read might weasel on the throwout bearing saying it's not internal to the transmission, or that it's a wear item. But MT not covered is total bull.

If you don't have a copy of the 60k warranty, and can't find it in the archives here or Mazda's site, PM me and I'll send you a scan.

So i took it to the dealership and they looked at it and said it was just a noisy release bearing and that i could either get the whole clutch replaced or just live with the noise.
