Push Button Start / Keypad Ignition / Proximity Sensor
Anyone tried this before? Thinking about a keypad ignition with push button start and a kill switch that kills the power to the push button start (backup for bad areas?). As well as a proximity sensor for the locks? I really don't want to have to take my keys out of my pocket.
Is there an online wiring diagram of something like this, or atleast the ignition diagram to give me an idea of what wires are what before I go cut happy...

pretty much any push button start will require you to have the key in the ignition or use another remote. And if you are gonna have another remote to take out and push a button to start it, why not just take the keys out of your pocket?

You walk up to the car, the proximity sensor unlocks the doors. Then you push in your 4 digit code into the num pad which turns the car to "Start/Run" Mode. You then push the "Start" button which engages the starter. But I dont want to start stripping wires if I dont know how they should be set up... I think it would be a pretty bad *** setup, "transporter" style?

Something like an inductive prox switch wouldn't be a secure idea.
And a photoswitch would be very complicated to tweak (distance and how wide the beam is) and you still have the problem with it picking up anything around it.

HaHa, The proximity sensor only works when you get near it with the remote in your pocket, keyless entry. It doesn't unlock every time someone comes near it.

No, I just think it would be a cool project and everyone would be all jealous that I dont use keys? yeah.. BUT, I also what to use a small little kill switch that can kill the power to the start button Most of the time I would just keep it on but I would shut it off on long times of not using the car or when I go downtown DC.

I actually did a Kill Switch project on a couple RX8s:

I think the biggest problem is the Mazda key itself since it has a chip installed.
You need to have it in the ignition switch, and at that point you might as well just turn the key instead of hitting a button.
