Spark plugs, or cat blocked sound like the cause of your MIL on after a long idle period problem. That could also be the cause of the puttering. Or a coil....

Hadn't thought about this site in many years now. Just wondered how many of you still actually own your rx8's? I kept mine for about 3 years (until 2007) and had nothing but trouble with it. In about the 2nd year I had the engine totally replaced (under warranty of course) and it got me about 6 months of problem free driving and then it did all the same **** again. Getting rid of the hunk of junk was the best decision I ever made. I hate to admit it but my 1996 Pontiac Sunfire, (car I bought senior year of high school) that is 15 years old has never given me any problems except for the alternator and it costs about half of what the rx8 did.

Take the car out and drive it HARD , these cars need to be driven . every 2 weeks or so I will start to get a bit of a rough idle and the rpm jumps a little bit , so I take the car out and drive the **** out of it for a good 1-2 hours , redlining at least 10 times hard into corners and everywhere i drive . After I do this my car idles smooth as hell and the needle does not move . People need to stop worrying about these cars and get out and drive the **** out of them and have fun , using the car for its intended for . When I first got my car I was overwelmed with all the problems posted on this forum about things wrong and I always had them in the back of my head while driving . I decided to get rid of the car so I drove the **** out of it for a solid week .... cars never ran better and I fell back into love with it and I dont think I will ever get rid of it . I took on a BMW 335i in the twistys at our local track and CRUSHED him , driver just could not or would not push his BMW into the corners that I was taking .... These cars flat out GET some .
