Question Putting a Viper 5701 in a 2004 RX-8

I just bought a Viper 5701 remote start/keyless entry system for my wife's 2004 automatic RX-8. I was wondering if there were any good schematics out there or tops and tricks for the install. I'm an electronics tech so I have the know-how and was trying to save a little by doing the install myself over the weekend. any help would be great.

Thanks

Well I'd say I am fairly educated on the computers, components, and wiring of an F-18 however I don't know all the ins and outs of the RX-8. I was looking for tips such as best place to run wires, mount boxes, things to look out for and that kinda thing. any idiot can splice a wire, it takes true skill to reply to posts offering no help at all though.

I understand man, I'm just pickin at ya cause I'm on a roll with the number of actual idiotic posts being made today

There may be DIY's in the section covering this, havent looked. But I can tell you, you shouldnt have any issues just going out and doing it. It's straight forward, and there arent any surprises or nuances that are specific to this car.

I'm almost certain all 8's will need a immobilizer bypass. There are several types. One you lose a key, as it is stored in a little module. The other type is a learning one, that simulates another key. I don't have experience with either but I just installed a clifford 50.7x in my diesel truck. Which is the same alarm as the viper 5901 I believe.

As for wiring, go here:

I'm curious how much you paid for your 5701 and where did you get it. I'm always shopping for good deals! I really like having a remote start and thinking about putting one on my 8, but mines a manual transmission so the install will be a little different.

Do you have the viper 5701 install manual? It's floating around on the internet. I recommend you download a copy because it is different than the viper owners manual.

you seem to be asking this a lot so let me help you out. a remote start won't work without one. even if you have one done at a dealership there is still a bypass device installed. The car however will not drive without a key in it and when the key go in it the bypass shuts off when turning to run. so it doesn't hurt your security to have one installed on you car and like I said. without it a remote start device will not work.

Yes I do have the manual but thanks for the tip and as for how much I paid. It's was $100 for a factory refurbished one, I found it on eBay through a dealer. and it comes with a warranty and you DO have to have a bypass for it the loose a key ones are about 15 bucks at pep boys and beats the hell out of $150 if you can afford to not have the key.

Thanks for all the help I'm gonna try to do the install on saturday and I'll let you all know how it goes.

That is a pretty good price for a 5701. Just might have to put it on the christmas wish list. Yeah if you run into any probs, let me know, maybe I can try to help a little.
