A lightened flywheel reduces the amount of driveline loss. For a technical discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of a lightened flywheel, see this FAQ on NASIOC:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?p=9878792

Bottom line is, a lightened flywheel will increase the power you are putting to the ground (especially in lower gears) at a loss of driveability (may need to rev higher to get the car going) and possibly throwing a CEL (not sure if this is the case with the RX-8 or not).

its less weight to get moving, so while it doesnt MAKE power, it uses less power, so the engine will rev faster, allowing faster accel as well as getting you into your power band quicker, the effects are more noticable in lower gears, 1, 2, 3 will be a nice improvement.
