Question for those who have installed their own exhaust

Quick question.

My next mod is going to be the Racing Beat dual exhaust and the Rotary Performance high flow CAT. I'm going to install it myself so my question to you is: Do i get both at the same time and do one install or would it not be that much of a PITA to install the exhaust first and then install the CAT a couple months later.

I'm just asking because i had a very poor experience with exhaust that was too loud because i did too much all at once. From what i've heard the RB exhaust is not that loud but i'd still rather make sure before i jump in and pop a high flow CAT on as well. Also, would i need new gaskets for each install? Not sure about that either.

If it's not that big of a PITA i'll get the exhaust first, CAT later, but if it is a huge PITA i'll just go for the gusto and do them both at once.

Thanks

It really doesn't matter if you do both now or the mid-pipe later.
I first did mine together, then I had to install my cat later (E-Check) and then reinstall my mid-pipe.
No problems waiting for the mid-pipe install if you want.

Good to know. Thanks.

Just to make sure, there is four pieces to the exhaust correct? Header, CAT, mid-pipe and muffler is my understanding.

The RB cat-back takes care of the latter two right?

To answer your question on volume, it's not loud at all IMO. I have the RB mid pipe with the RB exhaust and it's an awesome combo. Sporty sound with no droning, and great sount at WOT. You won't be disapointed.

Yes the RB cat-back would take care of the latter 2.

More like Exhaust manifold/Header -> CAT/mid-pipe -> Cat-back

When you're under the car actually looking at the exhaust yes, saying it that way makes more sense.

BTW, Jon, you're really on top of answering my questions today. This and the SSV thing

Thanks

I actually just replaced my stock cat-back with the Racing Beat last weekend. Car sounds awesome now! It came with a gasket between the pipe and the muffler, ie, between the two pieces that RB supplies. You keep the stock springs and bolts that are on the cat/midpipe.

The biggest PITA was removing the 4 hangers that keep the muffler on. Some WD40 really helped slide them back on, but getting them off was a different story. I think we eventually used a giant wedged fork (puller of some sort for axles - wasn't my tool) to wedge them off.

The 5th hanger on the pipe comes off with a bolt. It's a pain to get to, but it's far easier removing that bolted on hanger than it is trying to slide the rubber off.

I'd say it took 2 guys 2 hours to remove the stock exhaust and about 20 min to put the RB one in.
