Question Question for you wiring gurus

I have seen the topic of remote starters on manual transmission cars but nobody ever explained how to do it. If someone could please explain how to do this I would be greatly appreciative. It is illegal to have it installed in my state which I think is bs since it is my car and my decision. If I am dumb enough to leave it in gear and remote start it is my problem. But when you live in Nebraska and the temp goes from -40 to 105 degrees this would be a very handy feature :D

I think really all that would have to be done is bypass the clutch switch. There is also a neutral switch, that signal could be tapped into so it couldn't be started unless the transmission was in neutral.

Also remember, since the 8 has to "see" the chip that is in the key, you'll have to keep your spare key in the car for the remote starter to work...

What about an extra key that has the chip in it but has the actual teeth cut off. I don't know if the car will start with the chip close or if it has to actually be in the ignition.

I believe that would work, i.e. it doesn't have to be in the ignition. You may want to ask your service department though, as I am not sure about it.

It has to be "within 18" of the ignition switch location" (chip sensor actually - but I'm just repeating what I heard a dealership "expert" say).

I wouldn't do it, due to the key being there, disabling the excellant theft protection, and the possibility of flooding in the cold. The electronics is done by "warm weather techs", so they don't include any cold weather smarts in the program.
