quick question not trying to annoy
4 weeks ago i took my car in and they said the plugs were fouled and they changed them and updated my pcm to the latest flash. Well i believed them and went on but when i left the car was still idiling rufff and 2 weeks later i have been experiencing hard starts. So i decided to do the oil sweep check and to my suprise is work the oil guage sweeped. SO DOES THAT MEEN THEY ONLY GAVE ME THE L FLASH AND NOT THE M FLASH. I just want to make sure because i called and complained to the manager and he said well they only update the car to what they think they need to. And then i read him the bulletin and he said "Oh ok so do u want to bring your car in monday". SO AGAIN DOES THE OIL SWEEP MEEN I ONLY HAVE THE L FLASH. IF IT'S TRUE THEN EVERYONE NEEDS TO CHECK AND MAKE SURE THAT THERE DEALER GAVE THEM THE RIGHT UPDATE AND NOT TRYING TO CHEAT THEM LIKE THE A$$HOLES OVER HERE.

No need to shout, we can hear you just fine.
Any flash from the "L" on will do the oil pressure gauge sweep. If you look at the service ticket, it should list the "part" number of the PCM flash. As I recall, it's the 5th letter from the left that denotes which PCM flash level you got.

Ok so then there is no way to tell if i have the M flash then because on the ticket they just put PCM update/reprogram. Because i hate to take it in and it has the M flash already. Any suggestions?

Does it seem to be less powerful up past 7K RPM - as in it almost stops accellerating? If so that's the "M" flash. If not it's probably the "L" flash.
The "M" flash added flood prevention. When cold, the engine waits about 3 sec. when you start it before reving to 2.5K RPM. The "L" flash doesn't do that. It tries to rev. as soon as the engine starts to catch.

It just smoothes out the power curve, it does not decrease the amount of actual power. Due to the smoother curve the power is stretched out over more of the RPM range.

I will trying the going past 7k and wait to see what happens. But something strange has been going on since i did the brake test. My car is running normal. Meaning my rpms haven't fluctuated in 2 days at all when idoling. So maybe all the car needed was to have the ecentric shaft reset. Because no joke the car has been running smooth since i did that. I will keep you posted if the car starts to ruff idol again.

Sticker....
Should be a CARB/EPA authorized modification sticker, over the rad or up inside the hood.....
Mod # SHOULD end in either 'L' or 'M'. From there, you're on your own...

The "M" flash makes the mixture very rich above about 6500 RPM. I mean VERY rich. We cut 40% fuel and it still runs 12.5 A/F or so. That's what cuts the power up there. And yes, it is a loss of power that would otherwise be there. I guess they're still trying to cool the cat.
