Racing Beat Spark Plug Wires

Greetings,

Just changed out the factory spark plug wires with a set of Racing Beat wires. Nice. Real nice. Although I can't feel any power difference, I most definitely have a smoother idle. In fact, my '8 idles so smoothly now that I can't even tell the engine is running without looking at the tach. Well spent $90, IMO.

I've added quite a bit of stuff to my car, but some mods have been worth more than others (to me). In order of importance:

1) Richard Paul Shifter
2) Racing Beat plug wires (yeah, they go right up to the top of the list)
3) PIAA headlights (much better visibility at night compared to the OEM bulbs)
4) PIAA wiper blades (NO noise, and way better at wiping the rain off)
5) Kenwood speakers (replaced the (non-Bose) factory POS units)

That's obviously not all, but those mods have been well worth the money spent.

Best,
Bill

Rotario, Did you installed the spark plug wires yourself? If you did, how hard is it?

Thanks
SB

Hiya SB,

Yes, I did it myself. Pretty easy to do. The area is pretty cramped, but it took me all of 15 minutes from start to finish, and I had no problems at all along the way. I removed and replaced one wire at a time just to be sure that I didn't get them mixed up.

Best,
Bill

Did you need to remove the wheel to get access?

There's not really much DIY material there. Just pull off the old ones, and put on the new ones. Pretty self-explanatory once you get to working on it.

I PM's Rotario on this, but I wanted to share it with everyone. I was curious to see if the RP wires fix the shudder feel every few seconds you get that you feel in the seat and the shifter. I don't notice the tach meter jump around, its just that vibration every few seconds.

replacing my plugs helped some, but I'd like to see if these wires can eliminate or reduce this feeling even more.

Yeah please relay that info as I too am only curious about this mod for that reason.

Also about the DIY, I agree, I have changed plug wires before just not on the 8. I was just saying it might help someone in locating the wires, hell we have DIYs on changing your oil so why not. Never hurts to have another DIY.

Howdy Mr. M,

I'll take a couple photos for 'ya and see what I can come up with.

Best,
Bill

Yup. Here's what I sent to Brillo:

Yes, I was getting much the same thing -- a slight shudder (or rough feeling) at idle. In fact, there were a couple times that it got so rough that it was stumbling, and I thought the engine would die. Never actually did, but it felt like it. The new wires have dramatically helped out in that regard. Again, I don't feel any power difference with my butt dyno, but the smoothness is definitely improved. And it's smoother at high RPM's too -- just feels more "together" when going from a street start to redline.

Best,
Bill

Very helpful, thanks Bill, that idle has been bugging me since every other aspect of the Renesis is so smooth.

Hiya Mr. M.

Well, glad I could help, if only a little. If you put some Racing Beat wires in yours, please post back with your impressions.

Best,
Bill

$90...gosh, I must be poor...because I just can't justify spending $90 for spark plug wires. RB, I like you...but your company seems to be the RICH MAN's aftermarket company for some stuff.

Try changing out the stock wires on an SVT Contour w/ Magnacores....$130.00+

PS. you're gonna have to change out the stock wires on the 8 right around 60k miles anyway...start saving! :D

RB wires are cheaper than many of the other sets I see out there for the 8. $130 +. The stock wires are like $50 or $60 bucks.

THe improvement you guys see with the RB , could it be just the fact that you have new plugs and/or wires? Or do you feel the RB wires actually offer improvements?

i changed my plugs (NGK) and put on RB wires about 200 miles from each other to see what was causing the somewhat rough idle (car had 23K on it). the plugs made a bigger difference with smoothing out the idle than the RB wires. though they both made a difference, i would go with the plugs if i had to chose between the two.

Great if you want to melt your plugs. Another poster ran into some engine damage because the Nology wires melted his plugs. Another poster had some mis-fire issues because of them.

People --
Why keep asking about Joe Bobs brand of wires? Is there something the matter with Racing Beats?

Nology mentioned something about changing the timing in the FAQ if you plan to run the hotwires. Maybe changing the timing would of made a difference... Then again I was just reading the FAQ.
