Radio / Climate control panel intermittent problem
Hello,
I've got a 2004 model, sadly out of warranty, that has an intermittent fault with the radio/climate control centre panel. In a nutshell, the unit will switch off completely including the upper display panel (which displays temperature and radio frequency etc). With a mind of it's own, the unit will then switch back on and normal service is resumed. However, the unit is 'off' much more than it is 'on' and therefore you can imagine this is slightly annoying. I just wondered if anyone has experienced the same fault. Logic would dictate that the head unit has an internal fault but it would be better (read cheaper !) if the problem was due to an intermittent 12v supply for whatever reason. However, having removed the uint and inspected the factory loom, I cannot see how this could be ? If it was the head unit, could anyone recommend anyone who may be able to supply secondhand ?
Any comments appreciated.
Thanks

don't really know how to check it out but just check all of your fuses for tightness and push each one completely into it's socket .there are some cases where the fuses are not all the way in and will cause a periodic malfunction with the electronics of the car.because of temps. going up and down(heat exspands cool temps do the reverse).believe or not that alone can cause some problems!

i've just had this happen as well recently when playing a CD. I'm going to stick with just radio to see if it is dependent on mode. I sometimes get some feedback through the speakers. I've never messed with the radio. they only thing Ive done is tap the 12v for a wideband near the cigarette lighter. That is now removed, so I can't see how that could be affecting it.

The exact same thing happended to me. I took it to the dealer, even though I was outside of warranty as they are one of the only places I can trust with my car. Anyways it was just lose connections, which costed like 89bucks in labour only.
I told them I suspected it was due to broken motor mounts, which then confirmed. Although I was outside of warranty they were willing to replace them for free. I am getting them done tomorrow--can't wait.
