RE7A-L or RE6A-L
Hey all,,, long time.
Gotta question for all those who have changed their plugs and wires. I’m thinking I need new ones. I have 30,000 on my 8 and recently started having problems with it breaking up above 6,000 rpms and no power to speak of at all. It actually feels like I’m running on half my engine. I checked the wires and they seem secure but at 4 grand I can feel power cutting in and out so I’m changing the plugs and wires.
Now, my question is on the replacement plugs…….. I do most of my driving around town now and I am wondering if I should go with the RE6A-L’s (Hot type plug: recommended for 8’s often driven at low speeds which causes fouling) for my leading side instead of the RE7A-L’s (standard equipment). And, what would happen if I do and then take the car on a road trip where I get to drive at higher speeds, will they do any damage?
Thanks to all, Merry Christmas.

You will not get any damage. but I suggest you to just stick with Stock plugs. Or if you're not Lazy kind of DIY person. You can use Rx7 plugs but you have to change them out every 12K miles or so (cuz they gonna break alot faster)
Im going to change my plugs this week. Im sticking with STock because Im a pretty lazy DIY person

After changing them out with the OME recomendeed RE7A-L's I found it made no noticable differance in the way the car was runnning (BAD). I then found that my intake was full of oil and took it to the dealer who subciquently told me I lost an Apex Seal and ordered me a new motor from Japan. He gave me a set of replacement plug on the house and told me he was putting in the 6A-L's and taking out the 7A-L's
So, I'm staring over with a new motor.

First, its pretty obvious that they have no idea wtf are they doing in the first place. You will not get any better performance or prevent fouling or whatever by using the 6 plug. The fouling was caused by early computer programming and the ultra high tempature found in Rotary engine. Most stock plugs will die about 30-40K miles. some even died at around 20-25K.
Second, Oil in the intake means the dealership overfilled your engine oil. the Max this car can take is about 3.8 quart for normal drain. 4 Quart is still OK. but I saw tons of dealership tries to force 5 quart of oil in. Well most of the time the engine will eat it. But will spit it back out in a few miles of driving.(Thats what you're seeing in your intake)
Third, its so easy to tell if one of your apex seal blew. Most of the time You dont even need to run any compression test. You can tell by the sound. Now they're telling you that one of your seals blew? Its obvious that they didnt even pay much attention to your car in the first place.
U're lucky that you can get a new engine, let them install it. and Dont ever go back there again.
Change your plugs a bit earlier next time. Dont wait until 30K
