Is it just me, or has anyone had their cd start skipping from hitting even the smallest of bumps on the road after driving for awhile? Then, you try to eject the disc and it takes 5-9 presses of the eject button?

Then when you finally get the cd out, it's as hot as a griddle?

Is this a common problem, can it be corrected?

 

I've had my 8 for 6 months, 10,000 miles, and the CD hasn't skipped once. And, the roads in NJ aren't exactly pothole free... I have the in-dash 6-CD changer, and it has been completely trouble-free.

 

I've got the single cd player, I'd like to know if anyone with the same setup has had these types of problems, thanks for the reply though!

 

I have had my CD skip only when fishtailing around rough corner. Normally it wont skip unless I get the traction warning (blinky dsc light) for longer than a couple 10ths of a second.

The CD player has never skipped in normal driving on a bumpy road.

If it skips too much it might be mounted incorrectly, but it certainly sounds like a faulty unit with that eject problem as well.

I've got the same problem..Took it in twice and both times came back skipping the same or worse...On my customer satisfaction survey I gave the dealership all zeros(oaktree mazda in san jose califronia) and included a letter explaining my dissapointment...Last week I recieved a message from the service manager asking me to bring the car back to get this problem fixed...Have not called him back because I was busy this week with my Colombian girlfriend(boy are they passionate) ...I'm going to call the guy tommorow and probably get stuck with another mazda 6 for a couple of days with a cd single cd player that does not skip!!!!

My single cd player skips all the time. I am thinking of moving to Columbia so I won't care.

 

My stock cd player has never skipped.

I replaced it with the mp3 player, and it too never skips.

I'm in FL, the roads here aren't that bumpy, but I do go over rail road tracks and there are a few rough spots.

 

Yeah, my stock single disc player skips all the time with the bumpy roads here in D-town. It's quite frustrating. Does anyone else have an opinion on the MP3 player? I'm thinking about upgrading at some point.

 

The 6Cd changer has never skipped in mine, even over very bumpy roads.

 

i have the bose in dash 6 changer and never had any problems.

 

you would think in this day and age no CD player should skip. I also have the 6 disc and no skips but I can jogg with a $50 cd player and not skip you would think they would put a buffer in a $300 unit that is in a car.

 

Mine has never skipped. (single CD player).
Are you sure your disks are not scratched or dirty?
I know that many CD players will have problems with dirty disks since it is harder to recover from vibrations etc when there is a high error rate in the media.

I am pretty sure that there is built in skip protection, I think all portable CD players have them since it is pretty simple to do, but again they have problems if the media has errors.

 

My single CD changer never skipped and neither does the 6CD changer I replaced it with.

 

I guess what I'll do is to have mazda take a look at it when I take it in on the 14th! thanks for all of the replies!

Another issue though, Has anyone had their CD come out of the player Piping hot?

 

Not that I recall. Do you recall how long the CD player was on for and what the temperature was like outside?

this may sound RIDICULOUS but- are these burned CD's that are skipping>? I have found my burned ones skip all the time, but the "real" ones never have>?!?!?

 

I'm using 6 home copied CDs in my 6CD changer with no skips.

 

I only have burned cd's because I get to pick what songs are on them. Neither stock nor mp3 player have skipped with them.

 

I use burned and stock CD's, but the thing is... they play just fine until the cd player and cd starts heating up!

...And Flatso, I did install a toaster in the glove compartment, for those times I'm running late... but I don't think that has anything to do with it!

I would think the thing for architech to have looked at is the long delay on eject. With one press the CD should eject in 1-2 seconds. I'd show that to the dealer and ask them whats going on.

 

I can assure you that in my case, the CD player is skipping due to bumps in the road. It happens with both burned and printed CDs. Even a brand new store-bought CD right out of the case will skip when I drive on certain roads here. My guess is that those of you who aren't experiencing any skipping just happen to have better roads... You may think your roads are bad, but you probably haven't driven around Detroit much. There was a recent MSN article that stated Detroit, Fresno, and Sacramento had the roughest roads in the country. I have the 6 pack changer in mine. I have not experienced any skipping, but one of the CD's I burned stopped playing. I played just fine for a couple of days, relatively mild weather (75-85). Then display showed 'Check CD', wouldn't play it and ejected it, when I pulled the CD out, it was quite warm. I will have to put it back in later to see if it will play again.

 

My single CD stock player has never skipped, burned or "real" CDs. I drive an hour each way to work, so it's plenty heated up. Sounds like some people got defective units. My car was built 06/03.
