Remote window & sunroof close?

I'm always leaving the sunroof open after I park at home and I'm getting so tired of going out in the middle of the night, turn the key on, and close the stupid thing.

I have this idea to design a module that would automatically close the windows and sunroof. I'm thinking it could be triggered by a button on the keyfob.

The easiest way I can think of is the trunk button, but obviously it would mean I'd have to disconnect the trunk part, which I don't want to do.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to hook it to the panic button. I've never used it, but I guess you have to hold the panic button down for 3 seconds for it to work. It would be really cool if we could make it so if you pressed the panic button for a shorter amount of time, the windows would close....

Any idea how I could accomplish this? Any suggestions where to start?

Just an idea...

D2.

A question mark in the title would be helpful. I thought when I clicked on this thread you'd already have it figured out for us. I guess I was wrong.....I should be spanked.

Haha cool! No biggie. I think that's a bug. I had the same thing happen to me.

remote doesn't have the extra button, but how about making them automatically close when engine is turned off. then you don't have to worry about remembering to close it.

For every alarm, there are dedicated add-on boards/circuits, that take care of the locks, roof, windows and trunk. The RX8 handles the locks and the trunk, so that leaves roof and windows.

Maybe a question to a shop that carries alarms would solve the problem

CompuStar makes very nice alarm systems for cars. Their systems can be programed to close windows and sunroofs on ohter car model's, not sure about the 8 though.

AlienTech does this for VAG cars (VW, Audi, etc) however they already have the circuitry to open/close the windows and sunroof from the locks so extending this to the remote fob wasn't that difficult.

Ok, so I thought it would be cool to be just be able to hook my home-grown module into the existing remote system and use a short press of the panic button as a signal to tell the module to close the windows/roof.

Any ideas on where the remote receiver is located?

I thought it was normal, as my roof closes automatically when I turn of my car and open the door the roof closes. Sometimes it's a pain cause I have to get right back in and open back up if I just get out and run in somewhere. I guess mine is not normal.

Yeah I changed from an audi to this car, so the window thing really bothers me. I'm sure there's some way to do it, but you'd first have to wire window control into the locking system, and you'd have to make it that they have power when the car is turned off. I'm not sure if it's physical wiring that needs to be done, or computer, but I'm pretty certain if you're going stock it's going to be difficult.

I just read modforce's post again, and I would think then that there's hope in just reprogramming the computer to make this happen. The sunroof and the windows have power at least for a few seconds after the car is turned off. I'll have to do some investigative work.

with a little extra work (running wires into the car) this will work.
