Removing the air pump?
This is in regard to the fresh air induction unit that pumps air into the exhaust manifold to help burn excess gas and get the cat up to temp on cold starts. The pump and associated doo-dads are located in the engine bay on the passenger side near the firewall just in front of the washfluid reservoir.
Does anyone have experience in completely removing this unit, i.e., are there specific issues to deal with during removal and are there any electrical hacks that can be instituted to prevent the ecu from knowing that the pump is removed?
Your experience with this, no matter how minimal, will be helpful. Thanks in advance.
Please dont post asking why I want to remove this unit (it is currently useless) or informing me that it is illegal or will prevent me from passing emissions. Clutters up the thread.

Physically removing it is easy enough. I had to take it out during my turbo install. You'll of course need to plug the port in the exhaust manifold where the air pump hose connects to. I can't remember where the pump's intake is, but you'll probably have to plug that as well. I can't say whether the ecu will throw a cel for it or not though.

I took mine off recently just to see what happens . If you just remove the pump alone and not the bracket it mounts to you wont have a problem .
The lower wire goes to some sort of resistor that mounts to the bracket and this is essential for the ECU - not sure what it does but car 'no go' without it.
You can undo the top connector no problem . You also need to plug the small vacuum line that operates the valve .
I've been running around with mine off for a couple of weeks . It does cause a cel however . I can just reset that every few days with scanalyser if i want to and it does not come back on for 3-4 cold starts.
I have decided I will take it off whenever I go to the track as it only takes a couple of mins .
