Question replace cat with midpipe?

I have an 04. Can I really have the cat pulled out and replace it with a midpipe? What effect would this have, and what price range is something like that (if possible.)

I recommend understanding more about your car and the laws in the area you live in before randomly doing what other people suggest.

It will cost you the price of a midpipe. No labor cost, since you'll have to do it yourself or get a friend to do it. A shop faces steep fines if they get caught eliminating a cat.

My main point is that there is a wealth of info, out there and on this site as well, that can be found faster with a simple search. To search this site only through google type " site:rx8club.com whatever your question is ". This site has been around long enough that most of your questions will already be answered, you just have to look. Most of the time this method will be faster anyway. I am not trying to give you too much grief, just enough so you will search. A lot of people won't be so nice. Or maybe they will because you appear to be a female.

I'm not sure how to take that one. With a grain of salt I guess? I have tried the searches but my main problem is that there are so many conflicting posts in a thread. And also I like to ask those follow up questions- I'm not really car savvy yet, as I'm sure you can tell. Anyway, since you took the time to give me just enough grief, I will try to find the answers on my own a little more often.

It's just a fact that must people will not get on female users like they will men.no offense ment by it. I would recommend reading up on the workings of an exhaust system and emission laws in your state and on a federal level

Last year I removed my stock cat and put a midpipe on. It sounded good with the stock exhaust and it seemed a bit quicker.....nothing big though. I pulled it back off a couple months ago and put the factory cat back on. Two reasons...1)at about 4k it would twang almost like a honda civic fart pipe...drove me crazy...2)the unburnt gas smell behind my car drove all my friends crazy.....they wouldn't drive behind me at all. Also, at idle it would stink the car up as well. It wasn't horrible but it was enough that my wife simply wouldn't ride with me through town.

I instead went with a racing beat cat back exhaust. Sounds amazing and looks great!

If you do want to do a midpipe be sure to get a high quality one like racing beat.....the cheap ones just are built right for the car.
