Replacing rear wheel stud

Anyone have any tips for replacing a rear wheel stud? Fronts seem to be pretty easy however the rear looks much more involved.

Some have claimed to have knocked them out. If you can get the dealer to do it you will be much happier.

Rear Wheel Stud Replacement

I put this on a different thread, atter uploading the pics, I figured I would reply to this one too...

I know this is an old post, but I just went through this like a week ago. Rear stud was stripped and I had to replace it.

I cut the old one off and had to grind about 1/4 of the back of the stud off to get it in. Also had to hack saw off about 1/4" of threads. Last was bending the dust sheild out of the way.

I am not saying this is the right way to do it, but I have plenty of threads left on the new stud, and it saved me the headache of taking the whole car appart.

Here are some pics:

Original Stud with part of the threads cut off and back grounded down.

New stud with 1/4 of head ground off

Washers used to set the new stud

part # wise is the rear stud the same as the front? I once lost a day of track time do to a broken front stud. That I now know can be replaced in the paddock. Rears are another story, I have a bunch of front studs, if the part# is the same I can prep a few studs for the rear like you did and be able to change them at the track if needed.
