Replacing / Repairing the HUD/Heads Up Display
So my 06 Shinka's heads up display has a bad short in it and from a previous owner doesn't mount properly in its spot above the radio/climate controls and just flops around back there, the short is pretty bad in that you have to tap it or press on a certain area for it to come on and even then the slightest vibration or bump cuts it out again, not sure if it's the HUD itself or the wire but I'm going to replace the entire piece, my question is does anyone know how to properly remove the HUD from the center? Do I have to gut the whole dashboard? Can it come out from behind the radio/CC unit? Videos/Pictures would be great or a detailed guide of some sort if possible.

Are you talking about the navigation system?
The center stack comes apart starting from the cupholders. There is a little cutout when you open your armrest which hides the first bolt. Once the cupholders are out, the shifter panel is next, then ashtray then radio etc all the way up.
If you're talking about something else you might be on your own.

Essentially each part of the dash center from bottom to top covers the screws for the part above it. So you remove the Gear Shift surround, then the ashtray, then the radio, you can leave the clock/info lcd strip, and then you have two screws and if I recall two connectors and the top Nav panel just pops off.
Patience when removing the radio headunit. There is a bolt that holds it to the dash beam on the left side, access from the driver’s footwell. The faceplate is also fairly fragile so carefully tug once your fasteners are removed. Also expect removing its connectors to be a pain, hopefully Mazda gave you more service loop than they did on my car hahaha.
There are plenty of videos on Youtube for the removal of these items. Aside from that bolt on the radio the process is very straightforward.

Got it done, thanks all for the help, the bolt on the side under the kickplate was a doozy at first... Thanks all, and note it was the climate control / radio / clock / temperature display, not the nav panel, mine didn't have that! Thanks

Mine is not on. When I got her, I would have to smack it to make it turn on every now and then, now that no longer works. Start from the cup holders I guess... check the connection... if nothing purchase a new one? Thank you for all the input.
