Rev matching the AT RX-8
A while ago I read on another forum about some guy who actually rev matched an automatic with tiptronic. At first I was pretty much going but tonight while on the highway I decided what the heck, let's see if it's possible. Was cruising at about 40mph in 3rd, went ahead and downshifted, blipped the throttle, and lo and behold, it slid smoothly into 2nd without me ever feeling it! I was grinning like an idiot just thinking of all the fun this bit of experience just opened up. Gave it a few more tries from 4th to 3rd, and even 2nd to 1st, and pulled it all off without a hitch. The AT RX-8 just suddenly became a hell of a lot more fun to drive for me! :D This pretty much completely solved my problem of always having engine braking while downshifting for a turn. Sooooo much more fun now rev matching it smoothly into the turn.

Yeah... it sounds like you need a shift light and a big tachno for your AT car isn't it?
It may sounds a load of rubbish but it is true, especially on the semi auto that does not preselect the gear change. I heard the Audi TT try to do enhance mechanically during downshift.
Jason Plato recently test drove a Ferrari in 5th Gear and comment that they need to add a bit of gas in down change.
Rev matching is a bit in extreme since you don't know when the higher gear is off and lower gear is engaged.
Nice to hear you are having so much fun

I'm just more surprised that it's possible to rev match in an automatic more than anything, since normally hitting the gas = go forward more or less. I guess there's a small period of time though where you can spin the engine freely during a shift with the tiptronic, just before it engages the next gear.
It's more fun because now I can play around with the engine beyond just shifting it up and down. :D
