It is a positive displacement pump...so it will pull it in as long as you have flow in the tube.

Don't kink it...but it will work fine

It's not gravity fed. The OMP is a pump. Which means it controls the flow of oil. Placing the reservoir higher than the pump just means it doesn't have to work as hard at moving the oil. So to answer your question. No. You can take any route between your reservoir and pump you like.

What inline filters are you guys using? The one I'm using in my temp. setup is pretty big.

I use a fuel filter for a lawnmower, it's about 1-1.25 inch in diameter. More or less this guy: http://s7d5.scene7.com/is/image/CanadianTire/0607545_1?$medium$

Pretty much anything will do, IMO. The max OMP flowrate is what, 0.5L/hour? And in daily driving it's much much less than that.

Why do you need a filter?

Call it a personal rule - no unfiltered fluids enter the engine. Other than that, regardless how much I clean it up, my reservoir risks having metal shavings from the manufacturing, so a $0.99 filter is cheap insurance.

You didn't clean the reservoir before installing it? And the 2 stroke put in is clean so I don't see the point. But it doesn't hurt I guess.

The reservoirs have to breathe, which means a vent. You don't need a filter from the oil to the engine but is rather recommended on the breather hose unless your have a cap that is well vented to keep out debris.

This is why a lot of us who do or did use this setup had a filter to keep crap out from getting into oil via the vent.

Yeah my reservoir has vented cap with a foam filter media/seal in it. I can get replacements from Canton.

Well, it's really not a true positive displacement pump, because although it mechanically forces the oil out, it relies on a spring to push the piston and cylinder apart to create the suction for the intake (the piston in this pump is stationary, the cylinder moves). I've wondered if a highly viscous oil, such as on a cold day, would result in a reduced separation before the next exhaust stroke came along. Significant restrictions on the inlet might have a similar effect.

I just got my 04 AT rebuilt at Banzai Racing and they told me to premix from day one. How much or does this adapter help if you are already pre-mixing?
Mazda could of save alot of engines and warranty claims if they would of handed people a quart of 2 stroke with their new car.

The Adapter is the No.1 Mod on the 8 ... has nothing to do with Pre-Mixing. I would recommend both ... Premix and Sohn Adapter.

Premix is additional lubrication and cooling ... Adapter is no more dirty 4 Cycle Engine oil in your Engine which means a cleaner engine since the 2 Cycle oil greatly cleans the Combustion Chamber... at least in some places.

Mazda would not do such things because no "normal" buyer would buy a car where he has to Premix or fill another Tank with another oil....

Greetings
Thomas

So here's my ? I did some diy reading on adapter kit. What happens to oil line coming into omp with the regular motor oil? Capped off? deleted somehow? Or maybe I don't understand.

The adapter blocks off the oil supply from the block...and allows connection for the external oil supply :-)

Dannobre is correct. The adapter's job is to replace the use of dirty 4-stroke oil with clean 2-stroke oil. If you are interested in a complete solution including the adapter, please check out our installation kit options.

Just curious to know what 2-stroke oil everyone is using for this mod, I was thinking of going with Echo's premium blend 2-stroke oil for a weed eater of course, but i think outboard 2-stroke oil would be better.

Big negative on both of those. There are many threads about it, feel free to search.
No TCW3 oils; you want JASO FC or FD.

Just noticed Rotary Aviation sells an OMP adapter for the Renesis also. Is that new? Or have people been running that, looks exactly like the Sohn adapter.

Edit: Heres the link for it. Oil Metering Pump Adapters - Rotary Aviation<br />.com

I always thought the the rotary aviation adapter was the sohn adapter? I just thought that people called it the Sohn adapter cause it was made by a guy named sohn who had a website called rotary aviation lol. pretty sure that I am wrong on that.

I broke all the rules.I use a tcw3 2 cycle, i use systhetic oil, i premix now for 93000 and change miles and my 8 runs like new.Frequent oil changes is the bests you can do for a rotary.I have never needed a sohn adapter.I oil change every 2000 to 2500 miles now for 93 plus thousand miles.I'm doing some things right or its a real lucky car lol.
