rough idle, sluggish power until 5-6000 rpm
My 04 RX8 now has a rougher idle and acelleration is sluggish until 5-6000 rpm. 44k miles, all stock, plugs have not been changed, air filter cleaned but not replaced, 93 octane fuel. Living and driving at sea level in Oakland, California.
thanks, Russ

I'd say change your plugs and coils first. See if that helps. The engine tends to chew through those pretty fast. Also, get some MAF cleaner and clean out the MAF. They tend to get icky.
If that doesn't fix it... Maybe the SSV is stuck open? Not sure about that one though, so I'm probably wrong.

I had similiar problem when my car would be running: Engine would sometimes (not often) seem like it was gonna shut off (usually before/during a turn), sometimes my instrument panel would dim like it was losing power, or the radio display would turn off when the audio was still on then turn back on (like a bad electrical connect). Another time at a gas station I turned the car off, filled up, tried starting the car and it was like I had a dying battery, after I waited a couple minutes it started right up like normal.
I took it the dealer several times and they could not 'replicate' the problem. It would randomly happen to me, but inconsistently. They cleaned my battery terminals and check the battery. My charging system was fine/battery was in good shape. They said I had a random misfire so I'm changing my coils/plugs/wires wednesday. They are not sure what caused the problems similiar to what you are having. I thought it was an electrical issue too but it is yet to be determined.

Wow I have same problem around 6k rpm its like once it reaches that point my car just picks up and go. Before then it feels like something is holding it back then bam off she goes. Is it really because of the clutch? I just bought a Exedy Stage 1 clutch and lightweight flywheel waiting for it to be delivered. Plugs and wires and coils are all fairly new, also new motor core with just a few thousand miles on it. Hope it solves the problem.

I'm experiencing sluggish acceleration also... I noticed it about 3 days ago But it only seems to really show when I'm on the road for a while. Like today for example. I had to drive for about 3 hours and then it started getting sluggish halfway through the trip? I have no idea what's wrong. It sounded like it normally does... But it felt like I'm driving an RX-Golf cart. Any ideas? I'm hoping it's fairly cheep to fix considering I still have an oil cooler like leak to fix

Check the coils, plugs, wires. See if the plugs are getting spark and producing them. Read CEL's if any are on. And Read them multiple times - I know from experience it can take a dozen or more times for a code to pop up (Turn ignition into on position, read, turn off, repeat)
