RX 8 mods

I can tell you that it's not easy and it’s not cheap to increase the performance of this car. Hard as some new owners find it to believe Mazda did a good job on this car, there isn’t much hidden HP. This sub-forum contains most if the information you seek.

The search feature will also help. Just type in a MOD you have in mind and there should be a thread on it.

if you want power, go with the greddy turbo kit and the x-interceptor ECU, it will set you back about 5-6K with the install and tuning, but it will be a nice kick in the pants, thats really the only option the rx8 has now for big power.
If you didnt want to go turbo, you could spend almost as much on intake, header, exhaust,ecu/piggy back, flywheel, rear gears, mid-pipe, exhaust and only get about 20-30hp.
Thats talking power, the real shining point of this car is the handling, that can be upgraded a bit, biggest thing, get better tires than the OEM dunlop/bridgestone. That will make a big differnence. Then you can mod the suspension parts and really making this cars handling world class.

Several superchargers are coming soon as well--but the best mod for more power is one of the turbo kits on the market. If you just want a little more--intake/exhaust/ecu tuning are about the best--but you'll end up spending about $2000 for about 30HP that route which will equal a car that is about as quick as a 350Z to 60. Turboed 8s are good for low 5 second 0-60 passes consistently.

You will need to read everything on this website:
http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda4.htm
It will tell you what to truely expect from some mods. Don't trust the SR Motorsports HP claims.

I might also suggest learning a little history about rotary engines to give you some backround if you don't already know how they work. The RX7 Club is good for this, too.
